Awesome! A 4" New Service and probably one of the last. I don't know what you paid for it but you got a real winner there. Winchester could have either kept it for ammunition testing but they also served as a conduit for shipping arms to the UK. It looks like it has some Brit proof marks so it must have its way across the pond before returning. It looks like it sat in storage or someone's desk and rarely if ever used.

    You found a gem.

They were looking for 1200 for it but it sat there a bit so i made a offer . I spent over 10K at this shop the previous year so they are happy to make me deals when possible. ;)
I would have to agree with you that it didnt get used much, its in very nice shape and i thought the colt paper just made the sale for me to buy it.

You got a really good deal...maybe not quite felony weight but standard New Service revolvers in moderate condition go for that or more. You could probably realize a pretty fair profit should you try and flip it.

Some collectors don't like the proof marks from other nations but there is a small, hard-core bunch that likes them...especially if they're lend-lease pieces. You did well.

^^^. Something to consider when eyes are good. The rear sight is less out of focus when shooting a shorter barreled gun. So what is lost in sight radius is gained in definition. I discovered with my first “snub” gun, a 2 3/4” Security Six (in the early 80’s, IIRC).

Just picked this up from Maryland 7-day jail today. Colt Official Police...one of a fairly small number produced during WWII and sent to the military. Where it went after being shipped to Springfield Armory is anyone's guess. Considering its overall great condition it must not have been issued or used very sparingly. It still shows much of Colt's pre-war style polished bluing rather than the more sedate polishing of a later Official Police I have which was sent to the military. Not too long after this was made and shipped Colt converted to the Commando revolver for issue as it had a Parkerized finish to make it less expensive to the government. The Ordnance bomb is very distinct and it has the inspector's prick punch mark on the underside of the barrel.
