A possible new fluted heavy barrel option based of the M4A1 (SOCOM) was recently patented by US Army Command Capabilities Development Command Armament Center.

Now I'm irritated that it didn't occur to me to patent a process that has been used for 30 years in other applications for the same purposes.

With that depth and frequency of fluting, can it still live up to heavy barrel standards of rigidity?

I would call it a 'radiated' barrel.

Looks like one of those screws used to stop squeaky floors.

Good luck to those trying to turn-in their weapons in to the armorer after a field problem. Im those 'flutes' serve as nice dirt traps.

I remember seeing barrels like this during the great buying rush pre 2013 and since. Not socom profile but the twisted taffy look seemed popular a while back.

They look like all right hand thread. I wonder why they didn't make one or two sections a left hand thread so when the barrel heats there would be some counter force?
