The training is waived for you since your active duty. Back when I was a new marylander and didnt know better. I went to the shop, in uniform. Picked out my gun and they told me to come back in a week to pick it up.

Granted, I am from PR and I thought that was amazingly fast until I went to texas a few weeks later and with my drivers license paperwork and id I could walk out with a handgun.

    Welcome Josh!
My Son =in-Law is stationed at Quantico and he lives on base with my Daughter.

    There's no such thing! ;)

As quoted from my Senior Drill Instructor SSgt McNair in 1980....

    Listen up maggots!
    There are Active Duty Marines
    There are Reserve Marines
    There are Retired Marines
    There are Veteran Marines
    There are Dead Marines

but there ain't no such animal as a Former or Ex Marine!

Welcome aboard! I'd wait till I was at TBS, declare VA residency and buy everything there.

    Welcome to the boards, Sir.

I wish I had acquainted myself with AR's before going to PI...it would've helped tremendously during rifle qual. Though I'm pretty sure you'll get plenty acquainted with the super-long training at TBS...I personally would just wait it out.

If I may ask, what is your MOS going to be?

When I stop hearing about Soldiers stenciling "MARINES" on their vehicles to avoid getting attacked by insurgents, we'll call you. :D

I spent some time at Quanitco recently (I'm USAF)--learned a lot about the USMC. I'm also jealous of your access to Kings Dominion, coming from an Annapolis resident. If you have questions about this area, just let me know.
