Maybe the mothers of those birds should peck holes in the cow bird eggs and solve their own problems without dragging me into their fight.

Some do, most don't recognize them as parasites.

. They are supposedly edible and taste good but i've never bothered to try. .

In the early 80s,my dad and I were dove hunting in a big cornfield next to a campground. An older guy was staying in a camper next to us.We got back to camp and were cleaning the few doves we got between us.The older guy comes in carrying a 5 gallon bucket that he had filled with starlings he shot.He offered some to us and my dad declined.I was only 12 or so ,so I was a little curious of how they tasted but didnt question my dad's decision.

Just in case big brother is listening in, I have seen the errors of my ways. I made a sign and put it around the woods saying " This is a Cow Bird Sanctuary". Now, if they start robbing the neighbors, attacking the locals and expect free food and houses, all bets are off. :D

There are some nice markings on the English sparrows, but they have driven away the house finches and cardinals. I’m not gonna use a pellet gun in the city and lose all my guns, but I miss the variety of birds.

House finches are introduced as well, at least east of the Mississippi. Newcomers since the 40s, apparently. If there's a niche available, a bird species can fill it pretty fast. They're mobile and many breed quickly.

Ok, I read this entire thing, and all I have to say at this point is, "Shoot them all and let God sort them out."

What is everybody's opinion on pigeons? Invasive, non-invasive, good idea to shoot them, let them be, trap em all and use them for dog training. Inquiring minds want to know. Let's keep this thread rolling.

John, I agree with admitting the error of your ways, putting signs up, and offering sanctuary. Keep Da Man off your trail.

Pigeon, shoot and eat. Its a big dove.

I was in Morocco at a restaurant and the menu was in french and I see a food I recognized Bastila Poulet (Its like chicken pie) and damn good.

Below that they listed Bastila Pigeon. But it was 2x the price of Chicken.

My business collage spoke french so I asked him to ask why is Pigeon so expensive compared to chicken. I didn’t realize the waiter spoke English and he answered because it taste two times better.

You know what, it tasted way better. I had other pigeon meals while working there and I was never disappointed.

When we had to eliminate them - the aircraft maintenance superintendents always shipped air rifles in the tool boxes for this - from hangers and aircraft shelters in Saudi, the third country nationals (Indian and other south Asian muslims who do all of the work there) were thrilled that we allowed them to pick them up and take them for their dinner...

I was stuck eating MRE's - if I had only known Rob back then I could have used one of his recipes and had fresh food...
