This article is a pile of rubbish.
Thanks for all of the advice on how to be a good victim.
I'm probably being overly critical, but I feel like this article purposely put the picture of the woman as the first one so that it would show up like that in every share/repost instead of the person that killed the guy.
The innocent victim was apparently a pharmacist at the cvs that had been robbed several times recently. Businesses are being targeted along 450 and 424 that people go to with their families. They best that this state can offer up is be a good victim to the career criminals that are being rotated back onto the streets and forgotten about. This guy has a warrant out for him and they find him at his listed address once he murdered someone. It's pathetic.

I wondered the same thing. Not much to be found on the victim. The pharm thing is from people saying they knew him on Anne Arundel First Alert's facepage.

I just don't know how people can not be fed up with being victims. A criminal's fear of a potentially armed victim would benefit everyone.

The 24H CVS has now been robbed 3 times. This has caused my family to AVOID the entire area. We now shop and buy our medicines from the same place and are working on getting those few medicines on mail order.

We used to think it a benefit to have a 24H CVS in our area - now we look at it as something to be avoided...

    Sad.

Detectives learned Commock was wanted on an outstanding Garrett County warrant for a probation violation.

Another murder of an innocent person that wouldn't have happened had the perp been KEPT in jail in the first place.

Of course, the fact these turds know that thanks to liberals in the General Assembly there's about a 99.9% chance any victim they approach will be unarmed also helps contribute to the problem.

    Wow ...

If someone tries to rob you, give up your property, don't give up your life. If you are robbed or assaulted, report the crime to the police. Try to describe the attacker accurately. Your actions may help prevent someone else from becoming a victim.

    More like -
If someone tries to rob you, give up your property, and try not to make your attacker angry or annoyed. If you are robbed or assaulted, and are lucky enough to survive, report the crime to the police. Try to describe the attacker accurately. Your actions may help prevent someone else from becoming a victim. you feel better about being victimized.

What didn't make the paper was the shooting on Dryden Way(crofton)30 min before this murder. A car window was shot out. A shell case and the bullet were recovered AND linked to this.

Wait, so it's not right for me to walk down the street at night with Fifties hanging out of my pockets?

This response may not be well liked, but I agree with the recommendations in that article. If it came down to drawing a weapon, you really don't know what would happen, it's a last resort. I'm not saying don't draw a weapon, i'm saying try to avoid, then try and escape and if you have to make a choice between protecting property or escaping, choose escape.

I've unfortunately lived in some rough areas, I used to escort visitors to and from their car when they came and visited. I've had attempted mugging outside of my home which I thwarted with a 30" piece of heavy pipe that I carried concealed on my person almost all the time. My roommate got beat up and robbed outside of where I lived. After the second time, we moved. This was in Baltimore. I used to deliver pizza for years and had 1 attempted ambush by a group of about 15 youths armed with at least 1 chain and 1 bat (that's all I saw, maybe other things as well), I had one person try and hold me up at gunpoint, I actually attacked and ran as he was pulling the weapon out of the crotch area of his pants, I had one successful gun point robbery where a guy hopped out from inside a dumpster and I was caught in the open, I stood there watching his hand shaking like a leaf as he held a pistol on me and I emptied my wallet, this was in the White Oak area of Silver Spring. And I had one successful mugging where I was hit across the face with a pipe (I think) as I was looking at the price of a pizza. It was a setup robbery and on that occasion I ignored my gut instinct that told me to watch out and I paid the price. This was in Calverton. I had to drop out of school as I was laid up after facial surgery from that one. I regained consciousness just as my head was bouncing off the sidewalk and 2 thugs were standing over me demanding my money which I gave. I quit pizza delivery after that, I should have quit before that. It just goes to show that young guys sometimes feel indestructible and don't weigh risk well. And I freely admit, continuing in that profession, in the areas I was working, was dumb. I'm a lot smarter now.

One thing I can tell you, humans have instincts, and we need to pay attention to them. Every time something bad happened I had that feeling, sometimes without any reason, I just had it. For example the time with the gang of young thugs. I pulled into the parking lot to deliver a pizza, the same as I had done many times before. On this occasion I felt something was wrong, so I just sat in my car with the car still running. Then I see a head pop up from behind a car, then another a half second later then my car was surrounded. A guy walks up to the window holding a heavy piece of chain and says what's up. I answered by flooring it and 2 teens bounced off my hood as I made my escape. The time with the guy who tried to pull a gun who I escaped from, I just had that feeling.

There's tons of details to each of these events, I don't want to make the post too long. But now, when I go out at night, my head is on a swivel and I pay attention when I have a feeling that something is not right. I'm not looking to be a victim. The time with the attempted robbery outside my row house, I got out of my car, a guy comes up to ask me for a light (or maybe it was directions, change...I don't honestly remember), the point is I knew something was up. I whipped out my pipe, he backed up fast, I turned around and caught the guy coming up behind me with the pipe and knocked him to the ground. The 2 then ran away. So I'm not against protecting yourself. But if I could have gotten out of that situation by running or yelling, I would have. Once you engage in active self defense, you never know what is going to happen. And no amount of property or money is worth your life. In all my close calls, I was young fit and alone. So flight was my number one choice if I had it.

Hearsay but I'm continually hearing of robberies and warnings by LEOS to local business to be prepared as most business on rt 3 have been robbed. Plenty of crazy stories. New Bowie is getting bad.

The problem is that you are trusting someone with no moral convictions not to just shoot/kill/harm you when they get what they want. Even if it is that way it works out most of the time, I don't want to be the guy that hands over his wallet and then gets shot dead. I don't want to be the guy that isn't killed and the next innocent and perhaps defenseless victim is. I don't want to be the guy that now has to worry about this guy showing up to my house expecting a push over and endangering my family.
Where do you want to make a stand? Someone robbing you with a weapon is a threat. This isn't someone taking stuff from my house while no one is home.
My job is to protect my family. It isn't about stuff.
I plan to narrow their advantage as much as possible and then fight. Every single time.

The blood of this murder is on the hands of the AG and the entire justice system in the state of Maryland. This is their catch and release policy in full, deadly effect.

Being a pharmacist, I wonder if he had ever applied for a concealed carry permit

I am not sure if any owners of independent pharmacies have. It seems a fair assumption. However, many major chain retailers forbid the carrying of guns on company property regardless of state law or possession of a permit. They too usually promote being "a good victim".

i have lived in Crofton since 1999, man its been time to get out of the area... if I wasn't retiring in 19 months (but I am not counting) I would be out now.... between the shootings and armed robberies and extra heavy traffic... Baltimore and Bowie are closing in on us from both directions... its a shame...

I live in Crofton and I don't leave my house unarmed, which is really sad considering when I moved here in '06 I felt like it was such a great place to live. Back then, I never considered the possibility of being robbed, mugged, or murdered by thugs in my own neighborhood, and wanting to conceal carry a handgun never even crossed my mind.

I identify having my home burglarized (that, and getting married and having kids) in '09 as the catalyst for becoming self-aware, security-conscious, and initiated my desire to never be a helpless victim, as I lived alone at the time and learned that I had missed the burglars by minutes. They eventually were found and caught, but were minors (15 year olds from Upper Marlboro) so received a slap on the wrist. If someone wants to try to pull my card, I'm at least having a say in the matter, rather than living (or dying) at the whims of some worthless thugmuffin
