Hello, everyone. I would like to introduce myself.

I’m 48 years old, have been married 22 years to a beautiful woman, and have to two daughters who are 16 and 13 years old. I am originally from Australia and my work transferred me to the US in 2011 for a special assignment. My family and I loved it so much that we decided to make it our home, and we all became Naturalized US Citizens in December 2020. That was an extremely special day.

I work as an executive for the best car maker in the world (you will have to guess who that is), and I love my job. I work in Washington DC, and live in Potomac, MD.

I applied for my HQL a few days ago and am eagerly anticipating it. It has been a long-held goal of mine to do this. My shooting aims are to firstly become comfortable and safe with handguns, and then become proficient at the range. Home defense is a major motivator for me getting my HQL because some of our neighbors have been recently threatened. I never thought it would happen in Potomac, but there you go.

I’m looking forward to reading, learning, and most importantly, contributing to the community. Thank you all, for your kind welcome.

Welcome - to MDS and the USA! from the Eastern Shore (MD). Along with the firearm, good training is essential. There are several IPs that offer training and many folks here will readily offer suggestions.

Congrats and welcome! I helped my #1 girl through the naturalization gauntlet last year, and yes, when you finally walk up to get that certificate it's an amazing moment. At the risk of losing my Man Card I'll admit that I cried when they called her name. Lol. Anyway, welcome to the community.

Welcome from Harford County. My sister went to Australia thirty-seven years ago to play lacrosse for six months. She lives in Skennars Head, NSW now, right on the coast. I've been down to visit twice and can't say enough good things about everyone I met, except maybe a couple of questionable citizens in Kings Cross. If the trout fishing was a little better I would move there myself.

Welcome from a fellow MoCo-er - the wilds of back-when-it-was-more-rural Potomac were a stomping ground for me once upon a time. Sorry to hear that there are enough rumbles of discomfort even there to make home defense feel necessary. But as important as that is, welcome to being able to also shoot for skill and fun, and I hope your first handgun will be the fertilizer for many more. You have a great resource here! Sing out on anything and everything ... and welcome to 'Murica, we're very glad to have you.

    Welcome from Davidsonville.

My wifes family have a ranch in Australia. My FIL's sister went over in WWII, married and stayed there. Her six kids moved here, one became a semi pro bronco rider, but now have all moved back. We see them at least once a year someone will come to visit.
