    time and time and time again, violence and death would have been prevented if we would have just put, and kept, criminals in jail. it really is that simple.

    He's been on Fox several times over the past several months, while he was still Chief, and he espoused the same line while in uniform. He also was teasing a potential run for office then.

    Ah, excellent. It’s unfortunately not uncommon for political types to espouse very different views over time as the wind changes. Glad to hear he has been consistent on this.

    Police Chiefs...whether city, county or state...are appointed by the mayor, head of the county or the governor...and serve at the pleasure. If you have an anti-gun mayor, etc., that will dictate what the police chief will say if he wants to keep his job as he's beholden to who appointed him. This guy seems to not come from that mold. Sheriffs on the other hand...are elected and beholden to the voters.

    Sheriffs are Independent to the extent that they have a personal political base , and are not dependent upon their Party Leadership .
