No more info on the officers condition, or if the suspect is warm, or cold. Let's pray for the officers full recovery.

We did have an officer injured in the shooting in Rehoboth last night who was currently assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Delaware. We can’t tell you about the officer at this time. … Anything about the incident will go to the Delaware State Police,” he said.

On Thursday at approximately 7:47, Delaware State Police received reports of shots fired coming from the area of the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites parking lot at 19540 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach.

DSP and surrounding police agencies responded to the scene to assist with the incident. Upon arrival, officers determined that a shooting had occurred. The Delaware State Police is the lead agency handling this investigation.

Those details were the latest released by DSP after the investigation began Thursday night.

A Milford police officer was injured Thursday night after being shot multiple times in the parking lot of a Rehoboth Beach motel, the department confirmed.

The officer, who the department has not yet named, was assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Delaware. He was shot in the Econo Lodge Inn and Suites Resort parking lot, located across from the Tanger outlets.

Initial reports said he was flown to Christiana Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery.

Yvonne Turner, who was staying at the Econo Lodge when the shooting occurred, said police shot and killed the suspect. He lay in the parking lot for several hours, she said.

    ---

According to Turner, a truck was parked near the motel's office when a vehicle, apparently occupied by law enforcement, pulled up behind it and blocked it in.

A man who was in the truck got out of his vehicle and started shooting, Turner said.

"He ran across the parking lot and was firing back at the officer and the officer was chasing him. Then he was on the ground," she said. "I don't know if the gun was still in his hand or what, but the officer was telling him to get on the ground when he was on the ground. Then he shot (the suspect.)"

    ---

A law enforcement source with knowledge of the situation confirmed some of Turner's report, adding that the shooting occurred as officers were seeking to arrest a man at the motel. The man was wanted for attempted murder in Pennsylvania, the source said.

Police had tracked him to the motel and when they contacted him, the fugitive “came out shooting,” said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak about the ongoing investigation.

The suspect was killed and the officer was shot multiple times, the source said.

The officer is out of the hospital and in rehab/therapy. He got out last Thursday.

He was shot 5 times. He has a long way to go, but is determined per his wife.

I remember him from when he worked at another DE police agency.
