I stumbled into the beginning of shed hunting season by stumbling onto my first two. Both in open field near structures on the farm.

First one Jan 11th right side 4points
    Second Jan 21st spike

Like 4-Leaf clovers, some are blessed and some like me search but never can find any.

    Congrats!

    .

Last year after about 20 hours in the woods I gave up. A few day later wife walks in with left side of a 6point after walking the dogs. It's an ebb and flow luck game.

I usually wait til the end of March. You'll see bucks with antlers on into April.
Check out hay fields, winter wheat fields, combed bean fields, and field edges along picked corn fields. Bring binoculars. They'll save you needless walking.

I've been able to spot them from over 100 yards away in wheat fields.

I would love to do that , the enjoyment just being in the woods would be enough for me . Looks like fun .

I'm not much of a game cam guy (lazy) so finding sheds always lets me know what we have a shot at for next season. And keeps you in the woods.

As outrider said, best to wait some, but on normal driving/walking areas you'll be surprised how soon you can start finding them.

Kinda looks like the same deer, different years. Detailed specific scientific analysis has some indication of they're both left's. ALso plenty of pine schatz about and its really wet this year.:o
Still some running around with two horns yet.
Sometimes if you can jump them, they'll throw one off.

For a moment, from the thread title, I thought the Amish backyard outbuilding makers were short on lumber...

Nice grab! Watch out for the Bears! They'll sneak right up and jump on your neck when your not expecting it.

I see future shed horn hunter accompanying you.

He's 6 weeks this past Thursday, We've found 3 of 4 sheds with him this year. I couldn't be more excited to get him out and searching as he gets older!

Unfortunately he's already close to outgrowing his bear outfit which I love putting him in. Though I trapped a bunch of raccoons this year so his first hat is being tanned currently!
