I bought a sporterized P17 Enfield a few months ago chambered in 257 Wby Mag. The magazine does not seem to be original, and won't even allow factory 100gr rounds to fit. It does fit nicely into the floor plate/trigger guard, which has been flattened. I have a stock floor plate/guard as well and it's slightly narrower and won't allow the mag to fit.

Wondering if it's an original or not. It does have a "W" stamped into it.

    Where they send me.
Are you sure its a Wthby Mag and not a Roberts or other .25?

I ask as it looks like they modded that mag to remove the space from it for a shorter round (not sure if Robert's is shorter or not off the top of my head).

Have you fired it yet? If you're not sure about the chambering doing a casting may be the path forward there to be sure.

I haven't fired it but it will chamber a weatherby round. Says 257 Wby Mag on the barrel, too. I just never tried loading the mag. 257 is appreciably shorter than '06, so it would make sense that they might shorten it, though it could've been done some time ago. Still, it's not like spire point bullets haven't been around for a long time.

I should say that I had thought to rechamber it back to '06 so this may be a moot point anyway. I just got curious because when I searched for a stock magazine, it looked quite a bit different. See photo below.
