Only once when I owned an Uzi and a BAR. When we were shooting at a farm the neighbors heard the automatic fire and called the Sheriffs. Several showed...the Sergeant was a family friend. I showed them the ATF paperwork and tax stamp and they were satisfied and they left to talk to the neighbors. We would have allowed them to shoot with us if they asked.

I have had people talk about calling them on me/us. After I told them I could care less if they did... they never followed through. There are many stories of people who have. It usually does not tend to be a huge issue. Not a lot of guys with MGs sticking around to talk to the Cops if they have illegal guns... so if you stick around, the Police tend to already know its not illegal.

I've had the neighboring farmer wonder over and ask what the hell we were shooting. Easy conversation, no cops.

Would a suppressor help reduce the chance of a nuisance call to the police?
Good suppressors make good neighbors.

I once had a county cop show up because a 'new' neighbor close to my uncles farm (moved from the city) come by, but when showed all was legit he left.
On another note, when I had my AC556 and a friend had a semi auto VZ (model I can't remember) fired his with thumb in belt loop (i.e. bump stock like) and he emptied his magazine faster than I could empty mine in FA!
It was at this point I decided to save myself the $10 aggravation fee the state was charging at the time and sold my FA items. I figured if worse came to worse I could always 'bump fire' for suppressive needs should that be required and be better off financially (no more annual registration fee, less ammunition wasted, no need to remember the paper work when going to the range). Also fewer and fewer places to shoot these items these days.
I still have my semi-auto Gatling...

The only time I was visited by the Sheriffs department was at a quarry in NC in the '70's. They made a quick exit from their cruiser and quickly proceeded to ask if they can try it.

It was a '28 Thompson and I let them shoot a couple of sticks through it.

I was asked already by the cops to try some stuff out once while working at their range.
It was AA county near Davidsonville as I recall.
Im guessing they dont do that sort of thing any longer.
I wonder if they still have what they had in their inventory?
If they dont, hopefully one of them ended up with it at their house or in their personal collection.
