Soo, since I live in the vast void of "firearm ranges" know as Calvert County,, And my wife wants to start shooting,, and I really hate going to shoot with the "Unwashed masses" at Myrtle Grove,,,,,,

What is the preferred method to "weasel my way into" AAFG.
I remember taking my nephew there to shoot trap some 20 years ago.

I am a member in good standing with AA, How, and Mont counties as I am in there Deer management programs.

So do I just show up on a "public day" and cozy up to someone?

Interest are: Muzzle loader, Trap, small bore pistol/rifle,

Trap is open to the public on Fridays from 1000 until about 1pm. On Saturdays, the gate is open and you can come in. Find the RSO on duty and ask if you can look around. There is usually shooting on the Bullseye range, Shotgun Range, Hi Power rifle range and Action Pistol range.

The gate is usually closed on Fridays so that might be more difficult unless someone is coming in right in front of you. Also, trap rarely goes until 1pm on a Friday. Try to get there closer to 11 if you want to shoot or talk to some folks. Saturday is a better bet and, as already mentioned, the gate will be open.

I tried to join AAFG earlier this year (it's only about 10 minutes from my home). I reached out to them and never heard a word back from anyone about joining. I got the impression they don't want new members.

I ended up joining Berywn Gun Club in Bowie. They were very responsive to my membership inquiries.

I was a member there for 6 or 7 years. I liked the club, and the people. My only issue was the range hours (unless they've changed). You could only shoot centerfire calibers from 10-4 M-F and 10-1 on Saturdays. They did get 6 sanctioned weekends (I think) per year with longer hours. Good club, however if you have a job, not the best range availability....... Moved to IWLA/WAC Damascus about 2 years ago - been very happy there too.
