Hey all, I recently purchased a sporterized K98 and am in the process of bringing her back to life. I have since installed a new stock and all I have left to do is replace the rear sight as it was missing when I purchased the rifle. I have had an incredible amount of difficulty in removing the front sight to slide on the rear sight and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this?

Are you talking about the sweated on band or the back sight leaf itself?
Theirs usually a small grub screw under the front side blade that once drifted out will allow you to remove the front sight band after softening the solder.
Some rear sight bands also have a set screw that can be used to position the band before the band is sweated on or heated for removal. Late 98-98k models.
I never did the earlier Lange rear sight.

The front sight band is sweated on. Some have screws under the blade. The rear sight is the same.

If you want to install them without sweating them, I have put on hundreds of sights using Brownells Accraglas. It holds as well as solder but it makes it easier to get the sights perfectly aligned.
