A ****-you MG amnesty would simply lead to all of them being banned by Congress. Guaranteed.

I love when people always predict doom and gloom... If they are right, they love to through it in your face. If it does not happen, well its coming... so its impossible to be wrong.

They have had one amnesty period and they were not all banded. So history is not always on your side. This also works with the people that promise all current MGs will be banned and taken anyway. The NFA has stood since 1934. How many laws to we still follow from the 1930s? Not many. We saw one amnesty in 1968. They did not get banned then. We saw the cut off of new guns in 1986... less than 20 years after the amnesty and there were not signs it had anything to do with the amnesty. It was pretty much completely an inflation issue that pushed things for the cut off of new guns.

The future of gun laws in the US is less sure now than its ever been. One might say buying any guns right now is foolish as they will soon be taken. AR15s more so than MGs if betting. You have to do what is best for now and worry about the rest later. From the way it sounds, it might be the perfect time to buy shoulder braces! You might get an NFA item for Pennies on the future dollar! It would be like buying an illegal MG in early 1968... in a few months you would have future gold so long as you signed it up for the NFA!

Disagree (and, incidentally, I don't give a shit about being called a doomer). 2020 is not even remotely the same situation as 1968 in terms of knowledge, weapons available, etc. 50k weapons got registered in that amnesty. We would be talking about literally millions of guns this time around. Sorry, but there's no way Congress would allow that to stand, even the GOP.

You disagree with a historical fact that there was an Amnesty in 1968 and there was no ban resulting from it?

You are making all sorts of assumptions about what an Amnesty might look like today. It may only be WWI guns or WWII guns.... or whatever. You might have to show proof of the relative that was in the service to bring it back. You may still have to pay the $200 stamp. It does not have to be done in the same way as 1968. Now I don't hold any hope that this will happen but this idea that it could not or that if it did happen a ban would be the result is just crazy. Its happened in the past and obviously 1968 is not the same as 2020 and there would likely be many more restrictions put on the amnesty this time.

Winter is coming... eventually you are always right or its still coming. Its not being super smart predicting things that either have come or are coming. You can't be proven wrong and then you get to say "I told you so" when one comes to pass. However lots of talk about it on the internet sure works well for informing those on the other side where they should attack. We saw this same crap play out with the 29" rule and MSP. At first, nothing was considered. Then the other side got clued, probably with help from this forum, and now we have to deal with this incorrect ruling that will stand until their is a lawsuit on it.
