Picked up a 1949 Model 81 in .35 Rem today. Almost mint condition. Came from an Upstate New York consignment shop and I had a chance to talk to the previous owner. The story goes that the original owner bought it, put it away, got sick and died without ever having shot it. Years go by, widow dies, estate being liquidated and the guy I bought it from picked it up. He said he shot about 10 rounds through it and put it away as well. If that’s the case in 72 years, it’s only had 10 rounds through it since it was new. Bluing is 99.9%, stock is exceptional with minimal handling and safe hickeys. The seller also let me have 6 boxes of Remington 200 grain soft-core for $20 a box - said he didn’t need it anymore.
