    Let me be clear here...

In Baltimore County at one of our local ranges, a stranger came in & rented a gun...

    Sounds pretty simple...

He took the gun a box of ammo & a target out to the range...

    Sounds pretty simple...

He hung the target & loaded the gun...

    Sounds pretty simple...

He fired 1 round at the target an then...

He turned 90 degrees to the firing line & blew his brains out...

So why am I going to loan my gun to someone that I don't know..?

We have had 3 suicides at 3 different gun ranges that I know of within the last 8 years...

I don't know of any range that has been in business for some time that hasn't had a person commit suicide at the range. Many will rent the firearm too.

But if that wasn't available to them, they would find any number of ways to get the job done.

It's sad, but again we must not blame the tool.

What does this have to do with loaning your gun to someone? Not saying that I would do it, but its inherently dangerous to be around "strangers" at a gun range...whether you let someone shoot yours or not. You don't know anyone's skill level or knowledge at your average indoor range.

IT IS NOT ABOUT THE GUN...

The point was that I would NOT loan a gun to someone I just met...

After several meetings at a gun range & some discussions in a place much quieter than a gun range, I might be inclined to loan him a gun...

BUT not until I was convinced that he was of SOUND MIND...

I don't think the OP did anything wrong.

Personally, I don't go to the range to try other people's guns or let them try mine. I don't even like strangers approaching. I'm there to shoot, not to meet people.

    Pretty much this.

I haven't shot at OnTarget in several years, way too many, let's just say inexperience and unsafe shooters.

Same here, and I will never return to On Target. True lack of oversight by their staff the two times we shot there maybe 10-12 years ago. Since, they've experienced two suicides, and there were far too many indications of stray rounds for me.

Because of the weird stuff I take to the range, I often get people showing interest in what I'm shooting. I always offer it to them because I enjoy watching the smiles it always brings to peoples faces. For me, to sharing is always preferable to not sharing.

This. But I usually only shoot at my club, so the OP's situation never happens.
Millenials aren't ill mannered, they're just lacking any sense of propriety and social grace.
