Trying to work up a load for my Yugo M-57 in 7.62x25 Tokarev. I found an old thread, but nothing really relevent to what I am doing. Hoping that someone may have some experience using this powder and the heavier than normal projectiles. Having accumulated all available loading data from Lovex and Shooter's World and not finding data for my application is a little frustrating.
Here is the situation:
I have secured some Armscore 110 grain FMJs, .308 dia. bullets(.30 carbine pill).
Will be using CCI small pistol primers and Shooter's World(Lovex) Ultimate Pistol powder(D036-07).
Tried some loads the other day @ 4.6/4.8/5.0/5.2 grains of powder and was surprised that every load cycled the gun. The OAL was 1.320". The heaviest load felt a little over powered, but there was no signs of over pressure on any of the spent cases.
After testing, I decided to take the average of the test loads and do a batch of 50 using 4.9 grains of the powder and an OAL of 1.360". This matches the length of some factory loads in my possession and should insure that pressure stays well under maximum levels.
I do not have a chronograph so my testing is based primarily on the way the gun feels compared to factory or surplus ammo.
Picked up this powder recently and must say it is the finest I have worked with and it is very easy to double charge a case so double checking everything is important. Meters very well, but you may need to work on your powder measure to keep it from leaking out while charging cases. Finally got one of mine now dedicated to very fine powders after smoothing the internal surfaces to minimize any gaps which could allow leakage.
These bullets go far into the case and are below the case neck when fully seated.
Looking for input from the collective. Am I missing anything critical? Anyone have a recipe for this powder and comparable projectile in 7.62x25?
