Walnut is better for cleaning and corn is better for polishing IMO

Also... Just go to the pet store and get "Lizzard Litter" it is crush walnut just cheaper.
Also I add FLITZ in the media to clean the brass.

This is a small sample of each, and close up, I don't really see difference?

    MSM. Mostly STUPID Media

    Regret divergence

I think petrified cow pies and dehydrated septic contents are what they serve. Excrement. No matter which way you read it.

As for the OP, kinda hard to tell. I’d posit the harder/darker of the two to be your nuts vs cob.

I second the Lizard litter. Although I only use the litter for removing case lube. I wet tumble, with stainless pins, all brass after decamping.

Corn and walnut is cheap, but just use it regardless of what it is, then toss it when it gets dirty and replace.

Another vote for lizard liner. And I don't use corn at all to polish brass, only walnut. My method is to tumble with lizard liner and a dozen or so small pieces of used drier sheets until clean. Then resize and decap using Hornady One shot spray case lube. I do large batches at a time by dumping brass to resize in a plastic box, spray, stir (or shake box to shuffle brass) spray, stir, spray and stir. After resizing, I toss back in tumbler for an hour and brass is polished.

To me, it looks like the top one is walnut.

Try to push your fingernail into a piece. Corn will dent. Walnut will not.

I second the wet tumbling...just toss both the walnut and the corncob and get the steel pins...they last forever

And they are a lot more work.

Great if you want shiny brass. But some people feel there are issues with getting the necks too clean.

    No one answer for all.

Split a bag from Home Depot with a friend. My half was about two 5-gal buckets. Heck of a lot cheaper.

weird, I decided to order corn cob, and neither of the two bags of media I had was corn cob! The difference is obvious! I got 15lbs of Frankford arsenal for $18.
