In an effort to keep the AGC Action Shooting program going, I have been searching for and think I have found a place that will have 9mm and .223 available in the next few weeks. The thing is, quantities are limited and they will be holding somewhat of a silent auction, with the spoils going to the highest bidder.

I want to take the temperature here in an effort to try and figure out how much I should bid on for each caliber.

The first lot is going to be 20,000 - 25,000 rounds of 124 gn 9mm. The ammo will be manufactured by a private label, however I will be putting in a bid to a distributor.

The 55gn .223/5.56 will be available at some point in January. The quantities available are not clear yet.

So, if I were to want to recoup the funds quickly, how much should the bid be for these. My initial thought was $325 / 1000 for the 9mm, and $400 / 1,000 for the .223. Not sure if that will be enough to win the bid or if maybe it is too much to be able to unload it all at the first matches in January.

    Thoughts?

I haven't shot your matches yet, though I compete elsewhere.

At those prices, I'd take several cases of each.

Why don't you partner up with Ammo Jon? Seeing how he is in the business, it may be a win win for both of you.

Thanks, but don't really need a partner. This is not a money making venture. Just want to keep the matches going. Only need to know how much our shooters are willing to pay so I know how much to bid. Bid too much, I'm sitting on a bunch of ammo I don't need; bid too little, and we don't get anything.

    My initial thought was $325 / 1000 for the 9mm, and $400 / 1,000 for the .223.

I assume you'll be marking that up at least a little to cover the act of making the transaction, transporting, it etc?

I suspect that 20 cases of 9mm would vanish the first time you show up with it in January, if it's near that price. I don't think it's a matter of can you move it all, it's a matter of whether you're going to have to prevent people who aren't shooting the match(es) from wanting in on it. Or, having to limit that to half a case per person or so, lest the shipment has no impact on the overall viability of the matches because a half a dozen people would happily hoover up all that ammo and that would be that.

EDIT: To be clear, I'm an example, as I'd easily take three or four cases of those 124s.

I have several questions you should be asking yourself before placing a bid:
1- Do you, or someone you know, have a personal experience shooting this ammo?
2- Do the other potential bidders have personal experience shooting the ammo?
    .
As a reloader, I think of it the following way...
Pre panic costs to reload 1000rds of 9mm would be roughly as follows. (I said roughly, so please don't chime in over how you do it for $10 less)
    Powder ~$25
    Primers ~$30
    Projectiles ~$80
Brass ???, lets say $30 for range brass.
You're looking at a ballpark of $160-$170 in components (pre panic) to load 1000rds. If the guy is selling new ammo, the cost of brass would be significantly higher. Factor in 2020, and the cost to load 1000rds with newly acquired components would easily be $200/1000. Then we add the cost of the reloading equipment, labor and equipment upkeep.
I understand the seller is buying in huge bulk, so their costs would be lower than I posted, but I can't see the "hammer price" being under $300/1000

I don't even have anything chambered in 9mm. But for 325/case from a reputable manufacturer (not a gunshow mystery bag that might send me to the ICU) I would buy a case.

As long as you are buying from a licensed manufacturer I don’t anticipate any issues.

Good work, I hope it works out!

I’m paying more than that ($325 per) and I’m buying it in pallet quantities (90k rounds per).

Starting to think that I should up the bid a bit. Don't want to get nothing.

If you can do $400-$500 for that quantity it’s fair.

Megarms is talking about a legit Brand X, AJ is talking about Federal. Name recognition means a lot to buyers.
The above being said, if Megarms could get it for $400/1000 and sell it to AGC Action shooters for $425-$450/1000 (he put up the capitol) I think it would move very quickly. If he pays $500/1000 it would be too risky.

There will be a line of people to buy this ammo at anything near $400. Myself included for at least a case.

If people are lining up to pay 2x the price, ammo prices will never go down.

If prices are staying at the going rate for 9x19 and .223, once my stash is gone (estimated mid-summer, maybe fall for 9x19 and I'm totally out of 223), I'm out of the sport. I just cannot afford it at the current price point.

The youth is going to be dropping out fast at this rate and it sucks.

All indications are 1 year minimum, plan accordingly. I’m shooting 22LR and considering liquidating my entire personal stash.

as long as it's brass, I would be interested in .223 and possibly 9mm depending on final price per 1000 of each (my comfortable threshold for 9mm is $350/1000 and for .223 $425/1000)

Yeah this right here, looks like I'll be shooting trap and playing golf this summer.

Good luck with the ammo buy though I think it will help keep people who can afford it in the game which is great for the program
