I snagged some primers from a guy who was selling off his stock to scale back his shooting hobby and is planning to use the proceeds to travel.
I paid more than I wanted, but it was a win for me in a few ways.
1.) I was able to get more than just a single brick of 1000 of a single type
2.) I did not have to pay a hazmat fee
3.) I didn't support a business like Midway who is upcharging AND charging a hazmat fee
Hopefully I'll have enough to get me through for a good bit and by the time I need primers again, they'll be available on the public market for more reasonable prices. I'd love to be able to find them at gun shows again for a reasonable price.
I don't know if I mentioned it in this thread, (I may have already - I didn't go back to check) but a friend of mine was at a gun show in Nebraska where a guy was selling primers for $30 a sleeve of 100, and people were lining up to get them. That's unreasonable to me.I hate to say it but I thing "reasonable" is going to be a sliding scale.

Midway has some now for $90 (CCI 41)
Yes, I think the prices are higher than they should be, but if you need em bad enough, well, you have to make that call. I am looking for some small pistol primers, but I'm not too desperate and I'll wait til I can get them for a halfway decent price, hopefully. I did pay too much for some large rifle match primers from BPS recently, but I really wanted some, so I sprung for em.I grabbed a brick last week, got desperate for 300BO subs, had everything else, even $90 for 1K primers (and about $220 pre-covid for 1k bullets/powder) beats the crap out of the current $1.50-$2 per round for decent subs.

That's the real crux of the matter. It doesn't matter what other components you have, if you don't have primers, you're kinda screwed.A truer statement ever spoke. I started casting my own heads and now well stocked, if I just can figure out how to make primers. I have seen more powder lately maybe things will start to loosen up. I even checked the overseas market for primers. China and Russia both are selling but, I will not support them in any way if I can help it.

Some online sellers of reloading supplies allow you to put in your email address to be notified when primers are in stock. Just wondering if
1) people have done this and been notified
2) after being notified, were you able to successfully order the in stock primers.
Heisenberg.Yeah, making priming compound isn’t exactly bathtub chemistry for lead stephynate, oxygen donors, sensitizers, etc. easier to make Mercury fulminate. Which is not the easiest and is of course corrosive when burned. Plus, dangerous AF to make them all.
Midway has notified me several times on ammo, 350 Legend, 45-70 and others. You have to be quick because it sells out in an hour or so.
Brownells has notified me on parts well over a year, maybe two years later, they even called me!
One other company had notified me about ammo several months or a year later.
With Midway you have to renew the notification if you miss the opportunity.
Thank you for that lesson on the law of supply and demand . . .

But when it's over, I will not likely be stopping at Molly's much.
