Apparently passed with no public attention.
    From the email:

Petersburg slipped through local gun-control a few days ago and we (and almost everyone else, including the Petersburg police) just learned about it yesterday.

However, I have heard that since the local newspaper covered the story (below), that City Council is getting pounded. City Councilman Cuthbert was apparently behind the push.

The ordinance doesn’t exempt CHP holders or off-duty police officers, either.

I have reason to believe that even though this ordinance was passed unanimously, there’s a chance to get it repealed if enough pressure can be applied to City Council.

Petersburg has one of the highest crime-rates in Virginia and they are disarming people like you and me in government buildings, parks, recreation and community centers, and on streets during permitted events?

Let’s contact Petersburg City Council and urge them to repeal this misguided and dangerous ordinance that is going to raise the crime rate in Petersburg even higher than it already is.

Remember: even if you don’t live in Petersburg, an attack on the rights of gun owners in any locality is an attack on all gun owners!

    ACTION ITEMS

Let’s reverse this atrocity! Email the Clerk of Council and CALL City Councilman Charlie Cuthbert.

Email the Clerk of Council: njackson@petersburg-va.org

The subject line is automatically filled in for you, but feel free to change it.

    Sample message:

Repeal Section 74-213, which prohibits law-abiding gun owners, including concealed handgun permit holders and off-duty police, from carrying a handgun to protect themselves and their families in City buildings, parks, and on streets during a permitted event. Criminals will NOT obey that ordinance, making Petersburg even more dangerous for those of us who do!

    Sincerely,

Call City Councilman Charlies Cuthbert and politely, but firmly, urge him to get Section 74-213 repealed. His phone number is: 804-733-2323.

I read up on this and would like to see where its headed. You need all of the protection that you can get in Petersburg and it has now been taken away. Therefore I will restrict my business in that city.
