So there's plenty of pistol and rimfire competitions around, but where can I shoot a decent 3 gun match? I'm in Harford county but don't mind driving a bit.

Bonus points if anyone wants to squad together, I've only shot one proper 3 gun match before.

Agc action shooting puts them on in marriottsville. York iwla too. Good is a relative term. If you mean a major, that will be harder to find.

I'll second AGC. They are fun matches but limited to overall range with rifles unless they have use of the 200 yard range for that particular month.
    They have one every month.

I've seen theirs, but they always manage to fall on weekends I have to work.

The only match I've shot was a major one, which was a blast. I'm hoping to get as close to that as I can, with this being Maryland lol

thurmont above frederick has a 2 gun match coming up in a few weeks (one stage is usually at their rifle range out to 300yds). they do 3 gun there also (nothing on their calendar now), and actually the 2 gun match has had a 3g option a couple of times.

they're pretty newbie-friendly but email the MD now (c1ever@me.com) so he can vet you. if you do sign up, lemme know and you're welcome to squad with me, we can touch base when registration opens.

peacemaker between winchester and hagerstown does 2 gun but they start back up around march. they do 3g also but so far, nothing is on their calendar. they usually have 1-2 stages going out to 500 yds and another 1-2 at 100-150 or so.

AAF&G puts them on periodically in Annapolis. Check Praticscore for the matches around the area.

I'll definitely check into them, thanks.

Hopefully next year you can make some at AGC, the schedule should be released soon, we booked the 200 yard range as much as we possibly could

Unfortunately I'll be down in NOVA for most of next year for work. I'll try and make it back up to a couple.

York Izaac walton runs a 3gun series.. 30-45 minutes from Bel Air…

Shot a for-funsies steel challenge there once, and really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be back, just hard to find out when the shoots are since they don't use practiscore much.

I've looked at Thurmont a couple times. It's a hike but doable. I'd planned on shooting a steel challenge that day, but I'll email the MD and see what's up. Thanks man.

What's the big difference between that and a regular steel challenge?

I'm limiting myself to one or two matches a month unfortunately. Between working and time with family, it's hard to get more than that.

    Falling Steel is more better

Steel Challenge is less better but still fun

Falling Steel is a non sanctioned match. We set up 6 stages of 20 - 25 reactive/falling targets. At the buzzer, you blast away as fast as you can.

Steel Challenge - 8 different courses of fire (not all 8 at every match). You blast the same 5 targets 5 times for each COS and drop your worst time.

Ok sweet, that looks like what I shot at York. I'll try to make it out next weekend

Pre covid I always heard that York was tough match to get signed up for. Has that changed?
I’ve shot 3G at Thurmont and it’s a good match. Shot a match at Peacemaker and also a good match.
I lean towards 2G now for the flow of the match as a whole. Going to try and make a AGC 3G this year. I’ve shot some pistol matches there and they do a really good job. It’s also the closest range from my house.

    Last match for ‘21 is a 2Gun.

Working through the calendar now for 2022. Hope you make it to at least one.

York Has 3gun on the 2nd sunday-signup is open 1-2 weeks prior to each event
USPSA is every 3rd sunday with the same style setup for registration.

Neither of these matches are beginner style matches. They do work to accommodate beginners but the difficulty level is significantly higher than AGC.

York Club Calendar- http://www.yorkiwla.org/calendar.html the calendar will be posted shortly for next year.

https://yorkpistol.blogspot.com/ is where match announcements are made and signup is on practiscore for both. Our club has a short grace period for member sign up before each match is open to the public

There is also falling steel matches, fun shoots, 22 PRS, and some other fun oddball matches thrown in throughout the year. We like to shoot and shoot a lot of different stuff through the year. The Calendar and Blogspot page is our main communication for match announcements and signup links/requirements.

So you have to be a member of the IWL to get at the early sign up? Or just be subscribed to the emails?

I've had similar experiences where I tried to sign up for a couple of y'all's matches and they were booked
