Wow, what a 2021! I won't repeat what was posted in our annual summary post, but we accomplished quite a bit thanks to all of YOU who attended!

We are building an even more PACKED 2022 schedule that will exceed our number of events from last year and have even more opportunities for some of our specialized clinics.

    Rifle Marksmanship Clinics
A lot of you are probably interested in our standard one and two day Rifle Marksmanship clinics - we hope to have at least 30 of those scheduled once we finalize with some of our ranges. Our Rifle Marksmanship clinics are fun, and your shooting will improve whatever your starting skill level! You will also learn the history of April 19, 1775 and the shot heard round the world.

What is the difference between a One Day and Two Day Event?
We understand that some folks cannot dedicate an entire weekend to one activity due to family, personal, and work commitments. And seasonally, it is less pleasant to sweat or freeze for two days in a row. We therefore have different versions of the courses to accommodate shooters of all kinds. The One Day events includes the entire basic course of instruction, history, and, typically, one or two chances to qualify as Rifleman in a single day. It can be a pretty intense event - you will certainly "drink from a firehose" of instruction. The Two Day events expand the course of instruction to include more lessons, drills, Red Coat targets, and, of course, more chances to qualify as Rifleman.

    Pistol Clinics
We had our first Maryland Pistol event in December with 4 earning the first Pistoleer patches awarded in the state. We are requesting to schedule at least FOUR pistol events in Maryland (and one in Southern PA to go with several in VA) this coming year in the spring and fall but waiting for range approvals. Patriot Pistol focuses on building pistol handling and marksmanship skills - it is a challenging course of fire for even experienced pistol shooters but will certainly bring a new shooter along very quickly as well.

Rimfire Known Distance Clinics (200 yards)
We hope to have at least TWO one-day Rimfire Known Distance clinics on the calendar - probably one in the spring and one in the fall at DSA on the Eastern Short. These events move beyond scaled targets at 25 meters and push shooters and equipment as they engage targets between 50 and 200 yards from all the positions Appleseed teaches. You have to have attended a prior Appleseed event but do not have to be a Rifleman. If you haven't earned your new Rocker, introduced last year, I hope you sign up! We hope to find more ranges for them as well.

"Introduction to Project Appleseed" Half-day Clinics
Building on our experience launching them last year, we will have at least THREE "Introduction to Project Appleseed" half-day clinics. The half day will cover nearly all of the instruction we provide in a full clinic for the prone position. While you cannot earn a Rifleman patch at a half day, it would be a great opportunity to see if Appleseed is for you, a friend, or a family member! These will be on Fridays or Saturdays, depending on the range.

    Ladyseed Clinics
But that's not all! We are working to schedule one or more Ladyseed events after a several years hiatus. For many women, a rifle range is an unfamiliar and potentially intimidating territory. A Ladyseed is an Appleseed designed specifically for women. It offers the opportunity for women to shoot, share and get to know each other in a comfortable learning environment. We may convert some of our existing one and two day events or schedule entirely new ones.

    Private Clinics
And if that was not enough, we are already working with several groups on private events, such as "MilSeeds" for military units looking for their own event or youth groups. If you have a group that would be interested in a private event, feel free to contact me.

With so many moving pieces, please subscribe to this thread to get updates!

Sign-up MUST be done online. All attendees MUST register online. For full fee schedule, including potential range fees, go to the registration for each event.

    Events in Maryland

Finally, as mentioned above, we hope to still add more ranges and events to the calendar so stay tuned to this thread and the events page. I will try to post any new approved clinics here ASAP.

After a great inaugural event at York-Adams in Abbottstown, PA that is very convenient to a lot of folks north of Baltimore, we hope to have at least TWO events there this year - a Rifle clinic and a Pistol Clinic.

    Events in Pennsylvania

We also help out with events in West Virginia and Virginia and highly encourage you to attend in those states if more convenient for you. They each have great crews of folks and also get "border raider" instructors from the Maryland cadre.

    Events for West Virginia

    Events in Virginia

If you know of a range that might be interested in hosting, let me know.

These classes usually sell out quickly and we have a few groups that may buy-out entire events; sign up NOW to assure your spot on the line!

Finally, if you have been an instructor or volunteer in the past and want to get involved with the program again, we certainly want you back!

Happy to answer any questions you may have in this thread or by PM. And looking forward to posting more new events, AARs, and other fun stuff as the year begins.[/QUOTE]

I took my boys to Appleseed in '20 and we loved it. We all became better shooters, in no small part, due to the excellent instructors (shout out to SLCFSA - the best club around!). Can't wait to do it again. We were shooting stock iron sights on 10/22's, so couldn't keep pace with the boys using scopes for the rifleman patch...next time. The pistol clinic looks cool.

The Sanners crew is awesome and I am glad you enjoyed it. Taking on the AQT with iron sights will just make you all better shooters in the end. And, yes, there are some awesome shooters down south - a couple of our 250s were scored at Sanners.

We are checking on whether Sanners will host Pistol events as well - stay tuned!

    Winterseed!

Spots are still available on the line in Annapolis for January & February!

Both were Winterseed qualifiers last year, so don't miss your potential chance (if below 32 deg/ inclement weather) to earn the coveted patch!

And if the weather is nicer, well that is a blessing as well ;)

    AAFG AAR Jan 10, 2021 - Winterseed!

Winterseed! 20 Deg, 6" of fresh snow, and 30MPH winds! Lots of winter goodness.

10 students (including 5 new shooter/3 youngsters) powered through the bitter cold for a full day of Winterseed. ALL showed major progress. Even with frequent thaw out breaks, we still managed to get thru 2 AQT's by days end and all students dug deep to make the day a success. By days end 3 shooters managed to join the Rifleman ranks, with another consistently shooting just off the mark with 200 & 206 with his tube fed, iron sighted, bolt action!

Thank you to all the students, and volunteers, who chose to freeze their butts off, to make this event a success! Huzzah!

Pictures are up on the Maryland Appleseed Facebook page. Our Winterseed and Immortal 400 patch earners are below.

Shoot boss Agent 711 led another successful one-day Appleseed clinic at AAFG in Annapolis Marland this past week.

The day started chilly and ended chilly. Some were hoping for a Winterseed but the temps held above freezing (sorry Matt). But this group stuck in there and like the Disney princess sung, the cold didn't bother them anyway.

The group began the day with a Redcoat and proud to say repeat Appleseeder Matt G proved he still has what it takes by clearing it. Not a bad start but we saw there was some work to do. Almost everyone started the squares with groups good enough to make some scope adjustments and after the next squares target and IMC briefed by FunctionCheck, we went right into transitions and mag changes.

With such quick learners, we cruised through mag changes, shifting targets and practicing NPOA. During lunch, the first and second strikes were told by Agent711 while Liberty Boy added some sound effects to spice things up. If you missed the performance, you'll need to join us on April 23-24th at AAFG for our Patriots Day event.

Following lunch, the shooters once again listened and applied everything we taught them. From seated and prone positions to transitions, we were ready for an AQT. It was no surprise to witness Matt G and Joe H score Rifleman. Seeing the desire by everyone to prove themselves, we shot a second AQT. John M scored 228 adding his name to the Rifleman corp. And Matt G proved himself yet again with the distinguished high score of the day - 242!

The last Redcoat target of the day again was evidence these shooters meant business. Two shooters cleared it (Matt G and John M) earning the much sought Maryland Immortal 400 patch. At least a couple of these shooters missed clearing it by one shot. Oliver G - you'll do it next time! You should all be very proud. We wrapped up history telling the third strike.

We are again thankful to our host range Anne Arundel Fish and Game. And many, many thanks to our volunteers. Liberty Boy handled check-in, demonstrated positions and line bossed the evening, swapping with FunctionCheck who called the line in the morning. And Off_paper introduced the safety rules, making a rifle safe, performed RSO duties flawlessly and successfully tried his hands at calling the line for our last course of fire. Thanks so much to each of you for sharing your time and encouraging our shooters.

Kevin looks forward to seeing each of you again.

Pictures are available on the Appleseed Maryland Facebook page or in the Appleseed Forum AAR.

There are still spots available for our next 2-day rimfire and centerfire clinic at AGC on March 5-6 as well as our next 2-day rimfire only clinic at AAFG on March 19-20. We are still working to schedule Pistol and 200-yard Rimfire Known Distance events, so stay tuned to this thread.

Hope to see you on the line!

    Upcoming Clinics!

We hope to get some pistol clinics on the schedule in Maryland and apologies for the delays (we are waiting for clubs to vote). But if you would like to sign up, there are a few spots still available at a pistol clinic at York & Adams Game and Fish in Abbottstown PA (close to the Maryland border) June 5-6. I will be the shoot boss of a combined MD-PA instructor team and would love to see more Marylanders there!

In terms of Rifle clinics, we have a number of upcoming events.

There are still spots available for our upcoming 2-day rimfire only event at AAFG in Annapolis on March 19-20.

We also have TWO different weekends for Patriot's Day Events, which should have special patches and gear.

There is a one-day rimfire and centerfire clinic in Lexington Park, MD on April 16. That should be a great event at Sanners.

The following week we have a 2-day rimfire only clinic in Annapolis (April 23-24) which should be quite an event!

Another successful Appleseed clinic in Annapolis with Agent711 leading the way!

Day one began with our Red Coat. Following instruction of the rudiments of marksmanship, the group shot a few squares. A couple were not hitting the paper and after taking a closer look at equipment, discovered some things required fixing. With the fixes completed, everyone was hitting paper. Thanks to Off_Paper’s presentation of the IMCs, everyone was able to adjust their sights. Kevin even figured out his new digital scope with a little help from Off_Paper.

The morning was over before we knew it so we broke for lunch listening to the First Strike told by Lycos.

Shooters were excited and ready to learn the seated and standing positions. Not long after we introduced the transitions. Seeing everyone grasping all the instruction to that point the instructors led everyone through the stages of the AQT. The last Red Coat of the day saw a slight improvement from the morning but everyone was tired and ready to take a break.

Day two, Toni came back to try her rifle again after replacing her non-functional red dot with a new scope. With just a couple of adjustments she was able to get zeroed. This proved the usefulness of a good grasp of IMCs. Unfortunately Kevin’s digital scope did not save his zero, so he opted to use another rifle with a standard scope. This proved to be a good choice given his success later in the day.

Everyone received some personal attention through a ball-and-dummy drill followed by carding the sights.

Then it was time to put practice to the test shooting the first AQT of the day. Two new Riflemen: Patrick M. obtained a score of 215. Then Kevin M. too proved he has what it takes scoring 216. Huzzah!

Everyone on the line challenged themselves trying to beat their own high score and scores were creeping higher as the day went. Lunchtime came and Lycos provided the group with the second and third strikes.

Returning to the line, the group continued to challenge themselves. During a break the team introduced known distance concepts like trajectory and tying it in with IMCs and come ups. By the end of the day, Kevin M. walked away with the high score of the day, 222. Huzzah!

It was easy to see the excitement in the eyes of these shooters as they prepared to shoot their last Red Coat. Everyone was as anxious to see how much they improved. And improvement was seen by all. Remember, a Rifleman persists. Each of you have was it takes - you are all on the path to Rifleman.

Thanks again to our gracious host range Anne Arundel Fish and Game! And a special thanks to our volunteers, led by Agent711. Lycos provided instruction and entertained us telling the history throughout the day. Off_Paper also provided instruction to include a concise presentation of IMCs and shot group analysis. Liberty Boy (Devlin M.) set us up for success managing check-in and expert demonstration of all the positions. Devlin also took the opportunity to practice his marksmanship the second day. He re-qualified Rifleman twice. First on his Tippmann (scoring 210) then on a bolt action Marlin (also scoring 210).

I am so proud and hope to see each of you back on the line again soon.

    Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!

    Upcoming Patriot's Day Shoots!

We have several Patriot's Day events coming up in Maryland and adjacent states. What is Patriot's Day? We celebrate the weekends closest to April 19th and the shot heard round the world with special shirts, Rifleman patches, and events. It is a great weekend to learn and engage in the history...and typically has good weather as well!

We still have plenty of spots open for our one-day centerfire and rimfire clinic on April 16 in Lexington Park, MD. Sanner's is a great club and if you don't have two days to Appleseed, this is a great opportunity!

We have just a couple spots open for our two-day rimfire only clinic on April 23-24 in Annapolis, MD. This should be a fantastic event with a large number of instructors and some great shooters on the line. Agent711 has some cool stuff planned with the history.

If you want to make the drive down toward Richmond and maybe camp for the weekend, there is a two-day centerfire and rimfire clinic on April 16-17 at Cavalier Rifle and Pistol Club.

Finally, if you are in the Northern part of Maryland, we would love to have you attend the two-day centerfire and rimfire clinic on April 30-May 1 at York & Adams Game & fish in Abbottstown, PA.

Happy to field any questions and hope to see you on the line!

We have finalized scheduling TWO of our 200-yard Rimfire Known Distance events. Both will be at Delmarva Sportsman Association in Sudlersville, MD and are 22LR-only (no matter what the description says, which is generic). There is a requirement that you have previously attended an Appleseed event, mainly because we focus on teaching the long-range game rather than the basics of shooting you learn at our standard events. And our rimfire known distance events have their own special history as well! These events tend to sell-out quickly so sign up now.

Six shooters came out for a mild, sunny day of marksmanship and history.

A proficient crowd of experienced and prior Appleseeders (mostly), our cadre of shooters enjoyed pleasant weather, warm temperatures, and the occasional burst of heavy pollen clouds traversing the field. With no allergies and everything within sight being covered in a yellow veneer, the students persevered through the instruction, courses of fire, and the memorial volley, and by the end of the day, three requalified, grasping the the moniker "Rifleman" and earning their Immortal 400 patches as well!

Thanks to our Sanners Lake Sportsmen Club for hosting, and to our Instructors. Pictures are available on our Maryland Appleseed Facebook page.
