Only problem there is he’s not mining. At one time it was owned by Cheney enterprises. From what I know kenny rents the house and grounds. They’re apparently about to mine the area where his operation is. That’s why he’s trying to move his operation.

My guess he won't care either way from all that sand they're mining, cha-CHING LOL

Neither. From what I understand MDE is requiring the grounds be excavated due to high lead content. Apparently all the years of clay shooting at that location has resulted in large amounts of lead shot leaching into the ground.

I would say these people were the instigators and they will continue to try to stop shooting anywhere.

ShoreRivers Reaches Settlement with Shooting Range over Toxic Lead Allegations

Isabel Hardesty, executive director of ShoreRivers, says, “Many hunters and sport shooters are conservation-minded, and I urge these communities to look at this as an opportunity for improvement. Can we do more to protect against the damages of lead shot, or further curtail its use by switching to steel or other non-toxic alternatives, in order to protect our shared environment? ShoreRivers welcomes the opportunity to work with the sport shooting community in these endeavors.”

Not sure where it started, but I do know that all clay shooting clubs in the area are being checked. There will be a lot of clubs shut down before it’s done.

Wonder about Delmarva Sporting Clays and Rifle Range. One can only imagine how much lead is in that area.

I’m sure they are on the list. The older clubs are going to suffer the most, they have larger accumulations of lead. Hopefully they can come up with a way to mitigate what’s there and capture the shot in the future.

    It’s everywhere not just MD

Something similar happened with my gun club in my home town (Harrisburg Hunters and Anglers). The club was established in 1896 and has operated continuously since. In the 1980s- almost a hundred years later- a residential development was built next door and the new residents tried to get the club shut down due to excessive noise.
The judge was quick to realize the homeowners knew darn well they were buying next to a hundred year old gun club and were well aware of the noise in advance. Mind you, this was PA and not Marylandistan.

Out in Montana it’s happening. We’ve been plinking against the hillside since we were kids with our .22s at my uncle’s cabin since the 1980s. Back then there were maybe 4 other cabins within 200 yards. It was 40 minute drive to the ‘burg (town), half of it on the county’s dirt road. Kinda remote but on the grid- we had electricity!

Now the Cali expats and other transplants who snatched up lots and built on them expect the woods to be all sorts of quiet. Been shooting there for 40+ years. Last summer when the sheriff came round to take a noise complaint, the first thing he said to us was, “I know you’re perfectly within your rights to be shooting on your property...”

Damn right. Thanks, and sorry deputy that you had to waste your time on this. We did extend him an invite if he wanted to ring some steel on his off duty time.

I was up nominally sighting in at a farm owned by a friend in Carroll County (100+ acres). Sure enough, local deputy comes up about an hour after we started (and 45 minutes after we finished sighting in and moved to making the sound track to a 90's Bruce Willis movie). Noise complaint, blah blah blah, and "of course there is nothing wrong with that, have a good time." We offered for him to join us, but his shift just started and he noted that we would probably be gone by the time he was off. This area is pure rural, not a development or commercial spot within miles.

My folks farm on Kent Island, the farm next door has horse paddocks and was sold to new owners a couple years ago. Every time I shoot there, whether waterfowl or sighting in, I get them shouting at me and cussing me out. Neighbor on the other side recently sold and the new owner's 20-something daughter saw me in hunter orange walking to my stand; shouted over that I should fornicate myself and that I was a piece of excrement. The smallest parcels are 15 acres

Although, I should almost feel bad for them, when my mother found out she went apoplectic (I hadn't mentioned it because I knew it would be one step down from the wrath of God and mom doesn't need that blood pressure elevation). The last time the horse people pulled that shit she happened to hear it; went over and told them: a) the horses were no longer allowed on her property (she had allowed them to cut across the property); and b) if she heard of any more such behavior she would take up skeet shooting and limit her practice to only times when the horses were being trained. I volunteered the hunting-hater next door; my mother had a polite talk with her mother and received a voluminous apology, and prompted a direct apology issued to me. Just the same, you can see why I am looking for land further out on the shore and away from where Kent Island (for some reason, chicken neckers are willing to drive one bridge, but the amount of them seems to drop past the narrows, and drop further if you go up 301 instead of down 50 at the split).

Ken Schrader is a nice guy, runs a great operation. I don't care who is behind it (apart from them deserving a metaphorical horse-whipping), but I'll be putting in a call to the commissioners...
