Weatherbug mark v ultralight in 460 weatherby. With optic and loaded it was well under ten pounds. Misery.

I've shot 8 bore underlever hammer doubles (rifle not shotgun) with steel butt plates, 20x138B antitank guns, a christensen arms carbon fiber .50bmg, and a lot of safari oriented rifles. The .460 lightweight was the worst of the bunch.

In handguns, either the 4" .500 smith x frame or the .475 wilder magnum with a "friends" nasty handloads. The frame is not well rounded. A couple mags of that and I was done.

*****.45-70 Derringer two shot pistol, both triggers cocked...:shocking:

At least it felt that way. A .45-70 chambered Thompson TC Contender. I shot it twice, and promptly returned it to its owner. Made an S&W Model 29 .44 Mag with heavy 240 gr loads seem comfortable....

Omg, that .45-70 was just brutal. Prolly not a good gun to introduce a new shooter for the range qualification portion of my NRA Basic Pistol classes... :innocent0

44 Magnum of my Cousins in college. I think first shot I finished with it pointed straight up. He has a glandular disease and his fingers were so big when I saw his wedding band on the counter, I thought it was a napkin ring. Custom grips on the 44 and I had a hard time holding it and the finger grooves dug into my fingers during the recoil. This being the first range session of my life at age 20, I think I shot 3 cartridges before I said enough.

Shot someone's Mosin 44 in a synthetic stock (which is a stupid thing to do to a mosin) with surplus ammo. Loud and hard. With the loss of weight, it was more recoil than the Austrian M95 for sure.

I agree about the P64 and look out for the slide/hammer on your web.

Apologies on not seeing the post in the Handgun section. As for Handgun recoil, would be a DE .50AE, the recoil torques in my hand causing me to have to re-grip the pistol on every shot. An interesting one is a .357 Magnum with a hot load. The recoil went straight through the exposed backstrap into my hand and left it tingling for a while.

.357 in a derringer is memorable.

There's plenty worse I'm sure. Seeing how bad it can get seems to be a thing with some. But if you haven't had this particular pleasure?

Well, if there's a Hot/Crazy Matrix for handguns? You can find this one listed in the category marked "Stupid."

For handguns it was some Buffalo Bore heavy .44 mag out of a Super Blackhawk. It was manageable but it wasn't fun.

Is this what they talk about when they speak of gun violence? 3” out of any of my Tac-14 or Shockwave is pretty brutal, handgun SW 340PD with 357MAG I find wholly unpleasant.

Some years ago a club member bought one. He then proceed to let everyone on the Plinking Range shoot a couple of rounds. I asked why he was being generous and he said he bought two boxes of ammo and, after shooting 2 rounds, knew that he would never shoot it again unless his life depended on it. :lol2:

    My Worst felt recoils

Shotgun: single shot H&R 12 ga. Using Brenneke’s 1 3/8 oz. Rifled slugs. it’s how I’d imagine getting hit in the shoulder by Mike Tyson. Lol

Rifle: Sako in 300 win mag. I was 12 or 13 at the time shooting from a bench. Maybe not the worst recoil I’ve ever felt, but one I’ll never forget!

    Handguns: tie?
TC contender in 30-30 shooting hot loads.
454, 460, and 480 in revolvers. They all sucked!

Muzzleloader: original 1816 pattern Harper’s Ferry .69 cal, shooting a round ball and 120 grains of 3f Goex.

M44 is not too pleasant. A friend had a superlight plastic stock Ruger 30-06 that was no fun. Nephew had a mossberg 500 18.5" all plastic with 3" monster slugs...probably the worst.

I used to do some cowboy action shooting. Someone brought a .44 mag Derringer and I was stupid enough to try it. First barrel was brutal but I shot the second anyway. The area between my thumb and index finger felt like I had laid it on an anvil and hit it with a hammer. It hurt for a week.
