We've added a FAQ page. For now, we've added info about the ghost gun bills: https://www.marylandshallissue.org/jmain/legislation-tracker/277-2022-gun-bill-faq

Guess that I have been living in my own little world. Only joined MSI last year. Finally recognized that organizations like MSI are the one's fighting for our 2A rights. They are doing the heavy lifting in this struggle unlike larger ORG's of which I am a life member. The battle for our freedom's will be won on the state level.

    Welcome to enlightenment!

MSI's in a two level fight: at the State and Federal levels. But state level fights like the ones MSI picks are vital for two reasons:
    • They are swifter and less costly in time, money and labor than Federal Court suits; and
    • When they are won at the state level, not only do they eliminate Federal suits but they also serve as an example (and tutorial) for other state organizations to use as their TTPs.

So donate today and throughout the year!

Don't take those writing caps off just yet. Tomorrow, testimony is due for SB327 between 10am and 3pm. This bill effectively would make Maryland shall issue for wear and carry permits.

    MSI Supports this bill!

Sorry to nit pic, but "personal protection" is already a G&S reason according to MSP and their current process.

The issue isn't the G&S reason, the issue is the administrative over reach of MSP in what they require of a Maryland citizen to prove the ned for personal protection. Until the MGA writes a bill, that requires no proof of need, all other bills for personal protection fail.

I tried to get legislators on both sides of the street to understand this, but they never got it. It would appear little has changed in that regard.

Your testimony against SB387 could mean the difference between incarcerating innocent Marylanders and being able to legally keep arms you've always had the right to have. If the bill is going to be stopped or amended, YOUR TESTIMONY is needed.

Senate Bill 387*"Public Safety - Untraceable Firearms"*is being heard on 2/16, in person, starting at 1pm in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee room (Room 2, East Miller Senate Building). Sign-up starts on 2/15 at 4 pm and ends the morning of the hearing at 10 am. Signup is best*done with your MyMGA account.

The only way to guarantee that your input on the bill is received is to submit written testimony. You can, and should, signup to provide oral testimony too if you're able, but the committees are free to set time limits and be selective in who gets*to speak. If you're unable to attend the in-person hearing, be sure you're there on paper -- submit written testimony!

Your testimony must be within the guidelines set by the Committee, which can be read here:*https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/pubs-current/current-jpr-faqs.pdf*

Read more in our guide on submitting testimony, getting to Annapolis, and speaking before the committee*here:*https://www.marylandshallissue.org/jmain/legislation-tracker/166-tips-testimony-mga
We have an exhaustive analysis of what this bill does in our official testimony that you can find HERE.
We also have a FAQ section on this bill HERE.

Last week, the House Judiciary heard HB425, the House crossfile of this bill. That hearing can be watched here:*https://youtu.be/AXCRfR8avOw?t=3207

Otherwise, tomorrow (2/15) is a busy signup day. Maryland Shall Issue SUPPORTS SB456 from Senator Bailey and SB533 from Senator Ready, also*being heard on 2/16. Everything about those bills including MSI's official testimony is available at the bill links just above.*Your testimony in support of those bills is also welcome.

Find all of the bills submitted so far and how to testify with our Tracker at:*tinyurl.com/guntracker

What others?? They have yet to ram anything through without using a whole lot of political capital.

Have you ever been to Annapolis and at least sat in a hearing to listen to the testimony we give?

I think he is referring to 2013.

Abagnale, there was relevant testimony in '13 that SIGNIFICANTLY toned it down. Testimony can make a difference.

Ditto on the long gun transfer bill. The final version is significantly different than the original one proposed 2 years earlier.

You don't need a license to buy a long gun, among other changes to it.

SB0338 has been approved by the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee.

Authorizing a person to apply for preliminary approval of a permit to wear, carry, or transport a handgun without completing a certified firearms training course; and requiring the Secretary of State Police to investigate an application for preliminary approval of a handgun permit, issue preliminary approval if the applicant meets certain requirements, and revoke preliminary approval and deny a handgun permit if an applicant does not complete a firearms training course within 120 days after receipt of preliminary approval.

Only a few more hurdles. Do not break out the champagne.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I would start chilling the champagne just yet. It has passed both JPR and the full Senate in the past three (?) sessions, only to get desk drawered in the House.
