If it was a safe direction in the shot I’d be using my AR in one ground hog. Keeps taunting me at about 100yds and bolts if he sees me closer. Haven’t been able to sneak up on him yet. The other one I’ve taken shots at 3 times. Twice he was in the run when I took the shots and missed. The third time, yesterday, got him frozen at 30yds, took aim just over his back and squeezed off the shot. Miss!

Noticed the action cycled on my 10/22 and seemed a little loud. Crap! I’d grabbed the mag of segmented subsonics, not the segmented quiets! No 3” of drop at 30yds for the subs. It’s dead on at 30yds with subs (it’s zeroed at 50 with mini mags).

Gave up and ordered a live trap finally. See if some apple cores can entice them in. Worried they’ll dig under the garden fence and wreck everything.

Won’t stop me from trying to pop them if I see them running about.

Last year I popped 3 woodchucks with 6 attempts with quiets (including the times they ran off before I had a shot). I think I am at about 8 attempts with 0 on the ground.

My can can’t break jail soon enough. Then I can use subs and up my odds and range.

I’ve decided to start tracking mine. Holes and kills. Gives me an idea where they more of an issue. Gives me historical data.

I’ve realized there should be a “comments” section about the logs. Particularly if there is no picture. Hmmm.

Keep at em. Vultures will be happy and fat!

Yeah time for me to get back in the game . We have feral cats we feed and the ground hog(s) are eating out of the cat's bowl while the cats are looking at the hog . I came out of my office and scared it away and then the cats went back to eating .

I use a .22 pistol and harder to hit .

And another one from the same area. Within 59 yards of each other. There still one more a little more out I’m waiting on to come out and play catch with.

Another successful lunch time hunt. That's the fifth one from this field in the last 3 weeks.

I could be wrong, but I'm willing to bet a groundhog doesn't give a flippin hoot about our ethics.

The little SOBs don't, but I believe that IMHO we should try for a quick, humane, dare I say ethical, kill if we can do so for any animal that we decide to shoot. Once upon a time, I shot a large groundhog at 25 yards w/ a 22lr 40g HP through both lungs and it kept moving. The next one went through the heart, it kept moving. It finally stopped moving after 2 to the head at 1 yard. I don't like groundhogs anymore than you do but there is no reason to make them suffer if it can be avoided. I've used a single 22 Win Mag 36g hp since then to quickly kill them. If I could use a MD legal center fire cartridge, I would, but I can't w/o seriously annoying the neighbors and law enforcement.

Since this is still, sort of still a free country in MD, use whatever you want to kill vermin in your pursuit of happiness.
