I’m going to follow this thread for recommendations. I have been looking at ESP and Tetra, but haven’t committed to a purchase yet.
I'll make it a little more complicated. I've also been looking at Westone, but I hear good things about the 3Ms and Ottos.

    I just got the 3M EEP-100s.

I just tried them out in the house, but I like them. I do wonder about how they will stay in if I am sweating. But I got the lanyard so I don't lose one.

Now, to go to the range to try them out.

Bought a pair of Ghost Stryke hearing pro/bluetooth earbuds by Axil at Walmart today.

Quality did not look great but thought they would be OK for lawn mowing and listening to phone. No.

They have all the features you would want but very badly implemented. Amplification of ambient sound worked, loud/sharp sounds are muted, phone pairing worked great, advertises 29db noise reduction.

BUT: Constant background hiss at all volume levels, sound cut in and out constantly, sometimes both ears sometimes only right. Touching any controls would sometimes cause a loud buzzing sound. Going back to store ASAP.

Just adding...the electronic noise dampening that you're looking for doesn't exist. The electronics simply can't react fast enough to cancel a gunshot. The electronic noise cancellation headphones that you see on the market work great for repetitive and "droning" noises like engines, but do little for gunshots. The electronic ones for shooting do the muffling thing just like the non-electronic. The addition of the electronics in those is solely for the amplification of the other sounds that you do want to hear (like conversations).

    Duped something I already said.

And yes, noise cancelling systems will NOT help with impulse noise.
