When my father passed away (lived in NY), his handguns were transferred to an FFL. They have been at the FFL awaiting on my father's estate to settle. The settlement has come and gone and I am trying to bring the C&R qualifying ones to MD (a Colt Official Police Heavy Barrel that's pre-WWII and a Smith and Wesson Model 36 that dates to about 1956), as they should be HQL exempt.

Question: I should be able to take possession of these handguns with just a 77R form and without an HQL, as long as they are properly transferred to a MD FFL, correct?

That's true, but legally there is no problem. Some FFLs like to make up extra restrictions for themselves. :sad20:

I've noticed that in MD. I have seen FFLs sell clearly C&R handguns but require HQLs for them, even when it's not needed. I get it's "their business, their rules," but they lost my sale.
