AR 15 Pistol

I'm not sure if I'm posting this is the correct forum or not, if I'm not in the correct forum I apologize. I'm looking to build my first AR and want to make it a pistol. My question is do I need to have a heavy barrel like I know the rifle lengths have to be. I'm not even sure pistol length barrels come "heavy" or not.

pistol doesn't need to be heavy, just keep it under 16" barrel

Any barrel profile is acceptable for a pistol build. You have lots of options.

Second question . Is there a total length I need to stay under ??

Technically no, but when you exceed 26” you get into a gray area.
