I have to echo what many others said... Joel Etchen... I had a good experience and I wasn’t getting one of their top of the line guns... also, is a nice drive up.

Clay Target Sports (in NJ) hasn't been mentioned. My gun along with many many other shooters I know have guns from him. One of the best Gunsmiths on the East Coast.

All of this really depends on what you are looking for in a gun and what your budget is. As with most things in life, you are far better off buying new/used rather than full retail. Particularly when you might not be sure what will best suit you.

Poking around some local clubs, borrowing or renting a few different guns first is a good idea. Chances are you'll find the people friendly and willing to help out.

Lately, you can't handle a firearm in NJ unless you have a NJ firearm owners ID card. I don't know if they would even talk to an out of State customer.

Never had an issue. My uncle has bought two guns from him, drives them back yearly for "annuals". I shoot 10-12 times a year in NJ, I see people handling and demoing guns 100% freely.

Not saying they are a very friendly State, but I do by far most of my shooting over there and have never had or heard of a single issue.

Actually.....

I've never entered a State shoot in NJ that I didn't place 1st in, all the way from C up to AA class in the last 3 years. Never heard of a "card" required to compete or transport a long gun anywhere in Jersey.

I shoot regularly with 4 other guys, two are Members here, one is a DE resident, none of us have any extra credentials to shoot there.

The rules must have changed. I had a card from the NJSP allowing me to take my shotgun from Philly and shoot in Jersey. That was 25 years ago.
