I just realized there is an airgun forum here on MS shooters that's great!

I got a Hatsan pellet rifle for my birthday and was wondering what the laws are in Montgomery County. Can I shoot in my basement? Can I shoot in my backyard (1.5.acres). Can I shoot nuisance rabbits, squirrels?

An air rifle in MD has teh same considerations as a powder burning rifle. So shooting in your backyard would depend on your laws for discharging a rifle in your neighborhood. Shooting pests would probably fall under the same laws as hunting. Just do some research. Don't rely on LEO's word. Sometimes they are wrong. I am sure there are laws governing such. I think there have been discussions on this site concerning your county. Have you tried looking those up?

    Really same as powder burner?

Not in Harford County unless I’m gravely mistaken.

I would just search locally. Make sure you’re being safe. Inform your neighbors if you think they’ll be a problem.

If you call the local department, write down name number of person you talked to I really doubt a judge would slam you unless you were doing something stupid.

    - if you know someone with private property you’re probably covered. But I know some counties and the city it’s a no go

I was in Baltimore county and they considered an air rifle as a rifle. Monkey county is probably as bad or worse.

Yup. In MoCo, discharging a pellet gun in your back yard is no different than cutting loose with a .50 BMG.

    Also, sparklers are illegal.

They sell them at grocery stores in MoCo you sure about sparklers?!?!?

Also i shoot a pellet gun in my backyard. I’ve got a great natural backstop and some chipmunks that like to dig where they shouldn’t MURICA! Occasionally i have a hankering for squirrel roll ups.

hmm. i have a cat in my neighborhood that climbs into my tree in the front yard to try to get into squirrel and bird nests. It is not feral. Appears possibly someone moved out and left him. Big orange tabby. I have thrown shiite at it. For some reason this year I have four Bluejay nests in the tree, along with others. You can tell when the cat is around because the bluejays go bonkers. Some here capture feral cats, fix them , and release. When I called them and said that cats are the worst animals to destroy wildlife, I got a reply that the human animal is. I said thanks and hung up. As such, I want to reid my area of this friggin cat. I guess capture and move somewhere else, like a moat full of crocs, I guess. would love to just pop this cat with a couple pellets.

    exactly

One head shot from a .22 pellet gun at 750 FPS or a .177 with a light pellet at 1000 will do it. Remember SSS. ;)

that is what I want. I live in a townhouse in Germantown near Gunners Lake. Have a big arsh crabapple tree in my front yard. Live by the woods. Funny, when the crabapples fall and ferment, the deer come running to eat. lol yeah, I just need to slighly open the front door and pop that bastage. I keep the tree because it keeps the sun from crushing the main bedroom. Hmm.

It has gotten to the point that if you have any concerns about what you can and can't do just don't do it.
