Brand new to the site. Carroll County resident. Former submarine sailor (fast attack), recently went on a gun buying binge, joined Freedom Armory up in Glen Rock, PA (just bought another weapon there Yesterday). I shoot there almost weekly.

I would really like to find out more about doing some practical gun training. I guess that would mean getting involved IDPA and/or USPSA. I need to sharpen and maintain my gun handling skills more than just standing at the firing line and shooting paper targets. That's not real life.

Any info you guys can pass along would be appreciated. Thanks

    Welcome shipmate.
I'm in Edgewood, but I get out that way occasionally.

I'll be in Taneytown at Bollingers Gunsmithing in a couple of weeks. They're good folks to deal with.

take a look at the links Dave posted.

    Welcome!

IDPA and USPSA (and IPSC) are not tactical training. They are games that will familiarize you with drawing and shooting under (mild) pressure, but can not be said to replace real tactical training.

Western Shore Sportsman Assoc. ( www.westshoresportsmen.org ) let's Sights hold IDPA every first Sunday ( http://www.sightspracticalshooter.com/ ). Their calendar is totally worthless and they don't return my emails. I just showed up on Sunday and they fine with that.

Thurmont Conservation and Sportsman's Club out Frederick way has IDPA and IPSC...http://www.tcandsc.org/

I only listed Sights and Thurmount, because you can just show up and shoot. There are others in the area that require more hoops to get involved in. I regularly shoot at AAFG that have both IDPA and USPASA.
