I am interested in getting into Bullseye Pistol matches using my Ruger Mk III and am having trouble deciding which grips to get to replace the stock grips. I have been doing some research on options, but it is really tough to decide which fit me the best without trying them out. I would like some recommendations even though I realize that it may end up that I have to buy until I find what works best.

Here are the ones that I have found.
    Volquartsen Volthane:https://www.volquartsen.com/products/385-volthane-target-grips
    Volquartsen Laminated: https://www.volquartsen.com/products/935-laminated-wood-pistol-grips-for-mkii-and-mkiii
    Vitarbo: http://www.bullseyegear.com/bullseyepistol/product.php?productid=423&cat=9&page=1
    Herrett Nationals:http://www.bullseyegear.com/bullseyepistol/product.php?productid=31&cat=9&page=1

Any input on what works best from your experience would be helpful.

I shoot a Mk III Hunter in bullseye. I used the Herret Nationals for one season and then switched to the Vitarbos. The Vitarbos have a much snugger feel and better position my hand to avoid over gripping with the finger tips and thumb. I have them on a 1911 as well.

The Herrets have the adjustable heel piece but I could never get it comfortable enough for my small hands. It was also a little difficult to get the screws and nuts that hold the adjustable heel tight enough to prevent movement of the heel.

Downside of the Vitarbos is their size. I have a large three gun box and with two pistols each with Vitarbos the third pistol has to go in with the muzzle facing the other way.

If you want to give the Herrets a try I can sell you mine for 20% off new. They are in very good condition.

I too suffer from small hands, and have tried a few grips on my 1911 and Ruger to make them comfortable. I had the Volthane on the Ruger originally, but it was just 'OK'. I lusted after the Vitarbos (despite the cost) until I got to handle someone else's and realized they were just plain too big for my hands (that was a Medium as I recall).

Eventually I got the Herrets so I could match the the .22 and the .45 with the same grip. They are much cheaper, so I didn't have a problem taking a dremmel to them to fix the fit issues I had. I lengthened the channels so the heel had more travel, and added wood bondo to the inside for support. With the hex nuts 'roughed up' (with a file for grip) and some foam padding gorilla glued to the base, they both now fit perfectly.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks for the offer, but you don't happen to be left handed do you?

Everyone else, I appreciate the input and hope others continue to chime in.

I use a set of either Fung's or Eagles on my Buckmark bullseye setup and both make grips for the Ruger also. Fung is similar to the Herrets being a 3 piece but has more support. Eagles are like the Herrets but no palm shelf.

    Randall Fung: http://funggrip.jnb.com/
    Eagle grips: https://eaglegrips.com/ruger-mk-iii-grips/204-rosewood-checkered-thumbrest-grips-for-the-ruger-mkiii.html

Thanks Photoracer. I was hoping you would have some advice since I know this is what you do. Those Fung's are pricey, but look much nicer than the Herretts.

Do the Eagles work well for competition grips? Ahh, never mind, they don't seem to be available left handed.

Actually I went back to shooting bullseye lefthanded. When I went cold turkey right handed for everything shooting related in mid-2011 I wasn't shooting much bullseye so did not give it any thought since the rest of my shooting was all two-handed. But in 2014 while prepping for the MPC Family Day match I was getting some help from our club's resident Camp Perry master and discovered that inspite of the arthritis my left-hand was still stronger and could hold the pistol steadier. At that time I was using the RH Fung grips but got the Eagles in short order (LH so they do or did make them LH) and shot 97-3x in that part of the match. You might try sending them a message about the LH grips. It might be a special order thing.
Too bad you are so far away or I would let you shoot my other Buckmark with my bullseye setup and those grips on it to see if you like them or not.

I may actually make it out your way towards the end of March, so who knows, maybe I can take you up on that offer. I will email them for now. I am not in a rush to make a decision.

    Thanks.
