I got an old 1911 with a weird green colored frame and non matching slide. I want to refinish it in one color. Nothing weird. Maybe bright nickel or black. Can anyone recommend the good place to do it. And not really expensive too.

I am from MoCo. It is old but someone painted it green. The slide does not match the frame. So I think it has no historical significance. The frame serial places it around 1942 but the slide is from model 70.

It may have been painted green, but know that the WW2 parkerizing has turned green with the oil used at the time.

And in the '70s and early '80s , OD green 1911 frames were the height of tacticool , before the term was coined.

a ww2 frame would most certainly have historical significance

Here are some pictures of what I have. Of cause I hope I have a priceless piece, but I think not. In any case I hope it will be a good shooter.

    Try paint/varnish/poly remover first.

Slather it on and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.

Remover with soft brush and hot soapy water.

Try Formby's Furniture Remover. It not just for Mosin Nagant and Finnish M39 rifles.

    After complete disassembly of course.

bollinger's gunsmithing does some pretty nice cerakote refinishing. they can probably go through the gun and give it a once over for you too.

Well you didn't tell us it was zombie green. :D
Believe it or not WD-40 can remove some paints.

I have no idea if the frame is as valuable as other posters say. Part of the Cerakote process involves blasting. That would take care of the the paint.

I'm partial to the bronze cerakote. Search the forum for cerakote and you will find lots of pics.

I would look in the provenence more. The Colt Competition stamping on the slide is interesting.

You could Duracoat it yourself with their Shake and Spray kit. Pretty easy. Check Youtube. Did the stock on my Remington 700 and it came out good.

If you just try some paint remover, you may find that the frame is the same color as the slide.

Looks like a rattle can job and probably not baked on.

It's already wearing off the on the trigger guard.

    Betcha it comes right off.

Hit the bare spots with some quality cold blue and call it a day.
