OP I hope you find a great female and I wish you the best of luck.

Don't fret this place will poop on any and every thread! We would find the key to world peace here but someone here would ruin it!

Is this a full time position or could I tell a few of my coworkers and it could be a weekend gig?

An employer cannot hire specifically for a certain sex, age, nationality or race.

Now, if an employer wants to mention in their hiring ad "Females encouraged to apply", that seems to be acceptable. Event hough everyone knows what it really means.

I think that anyone in the business of firearms training, who runs a training company and understands the current marketplace, is absolutely within the parameters of BFOQ to ask for female candidates.

One of our Central Maryland Gun shops has made a cottage industry of catering to women....Worth-A-Shot. I have heard nothing but praises from women who took her woman-only classes. Women are sometimes intimidated by taking firearms classes with men. They sometimes encounter condescending male instructors (some of those guys are condescending to everyone....male and female...who doesn't 'know' as much as they do*). Also, male students in some classes are often macho and out to demonstrate how much they already know.

    * Notice, 'know' is in parentheses.

Certainly not all, or even most male instructors are this way, but it is common enough that many women feel more secure in woman-only classes especially when they perceive shooting as a male-dominated discipline and are somewhat intimidated to get into it without a mentor of some sort to begin with.

It's actually a very good thing as the more women who get into the discipline, the more political support we have regarding gun rights.

And, lol, even when a potential mentor is available, it doesn't always work out. My own wife, lol, doesn't always take instruction well from me even though I believe I have had a good rapport with women and girls who have had Hunter's Ed or informal firearms instruction from me.

I can totally understand why someone would want to capture some of this demand for their classes....especially since interest among women in shooting has increased so dramtically in recent years.

I believe Courtney White and Patty West will be looking for new jobs soon.

I saw both Courtney and Patty yesterday at AGC, but both were working with customers so I didn't get a chance to mention this position. I don't think either will be a candidate, but they might be able to recommend a good person for the job. Both ladies have done a nice job of introducing women (and men) to the shooting sports.

Two things an experienced instructor once told me years ago that I didn't entirely believe at the time:

First, very few make any money teaching firearms.

Second, firearm instructors exhibit a lot of the same social relationship and competitive behaviors of teenage girls.

    Good luck.

Nice you are settling down. I guess Gilberts is your go to?
No, I use the Protected Services Training Academy in Upper Marlboro, MD. Their facility has a lot more to offer without the distractions from a public range. I've been teaching firearms courses for over a year now. The staff is great and very professional. They have 6 classrooms, a dojo training area, Ti Simulator room, 2 ranges, rifle & pistol storage lockers, and storage cages for training gear. And like all ranges they also have a store and firearm rentals.
