Trying to find a new front sight for my Shockwave. Was thinking about doing the Big XS w JB weld. Has anyone done it here and did it work out? Saw a few YT videos incl Mrgunsandgear that did it. Just wondering if that was a good. I also read a few reviews that the JB weld didn't hold for long. Any help / suggestions / insight would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I have done it but the X S sight glued on the barrel shot too low. I had to put a 1/8 inch piece of steel under the sight to make it work. My barrel was a 18 inch, I don't know how short a shockwave is.

If you rough up the barrel good, JB weld will keep the sight on.

Thanks John. Appreciate the advice. I think it is 14 inches. I want to add a pic rail up top, so might need more height on the front sight to clear the pic rail.

I have NEVER heard of JB Weld'ing a front sight on a shotgun tube. Very interesting. I may do that with my single shot Harrington Richardson.

I did a jiffy fix on a cracked dovetail base for a m500 a long time ago.
Gluing anything on a firearm especially to a metal part in my opinion is a bodge but just further indication of why opinions stink.

I cant reasonably estimate how many times this barrels been used in the field or just for target practice, retrieving game, in a boat or whatever and it's still serviceable.

I don't intend to fix it the right way. Or really use the sight anymore for that matter so its just there.

It kind of reminds me of the hardware store displays where a golf ball was attached to a piece of pipe to metal plate to a glass coke bottle etc. so Ill leave it.

Hi ... so the front sight in the pic was glued (JB type weld?) on and it stayed on through many years?

    Thanks for the clarification.

Sure, Its a rear sight on a barrel that has seen heavy service. Once it had been hastily repaired, it still continues to function as intended while continually being subjected to non gun friendly environments or regular maintenance.

First of all, I think you and I work together. If so you will know who i am by my screen name.

Second, i wouldnt JB Weld a front sight in place. I’d take it to a smith and have it done right. I just paid a local smith to put a larger front bead on my Winchester 1300 and it turned out perfect. After talking to him about the install procedure I’m glad I took it in to him, there was a little more to it than i thought
