I have been looking for one for months. Mostly on GB.

Early Model 8A's in good condition in .35 Rem are going for right around $1K.
Additionally, it does not have a XX3 repair code stamped next to the date code so it has never been sent back to Remington for repair.

    And never will now...:sad20:

One would think, that it would have behooved a company like Remington to make some parts runs on the 8/81 platform in later years to keep the old workhorses running. Does it provide as much profit as a whole new rifle? Likely not, but given the cost of NOS and even used parts for these rifles, they could have made quite a bit of money. Unfortunately, Remington and Winchester both seem to forget the appeal that the older workhorses have for the next generation of shooters and hunters. I'd take a JMB long-recoil semi-automatic action into the field for deer or other game over a brand-new Rem 700 any day of the week.

Remington may have wore out/lost/destroyed the tooling early on after production ended; or storing it (or running small batches of parts) was deemed "not economically viable". It costs a lot of money to produce spare parts and distribute them especially while trying to get production guns out the door.
Maybe there's a dim warehouse somewhere with all the tooling preserved and ready for someone to start production up again :)

Too rich for a skin flint like me. I'd pay upto around $900 but... I already have a model 81 that is in good condition, so no need.:D
At these prices I may have to contemplate selling mine...

I do wonder though, how much new production would run, using state of the art CNC machining and modern production methods. Still way more than a $700 AR15 I'm sure and accuracy wouldn't be as good, still... :innocent0

I marked and watched four 8/81s sell this morning at auction. Prices ranged from $780 to $540 with the vig. The highest priced example was a VG condition 81 chambered in .300 Savage. I'd call it borderline collector grade. Low man on the totem pole was a shooter grade 8 chambered in .25 Rem. The good news is that there's lots to choose from out on the market. From Deluxe collector grade to shooter.

    Online auction?
    Any info would be appreciated.

If those pics are true, I'd have bought every one of them and flipped them.
Not sure I am buying it though - been watching Model 8 and 81s for months. Seen parts guns go for more.

Agreed, the only 8 / 81's I've seen for that price would be parts guns as they showed evidence of being very much abused (holes drilled in receiver, one or more sights missing, no original finish, etc)

    Yep.

Awhile back on GB there was a 8 that had 12 holes drilled in the side of the receiver and it still went for over $1000.

I see any under $650 - $700 I am snapping them up and will flip them on GB.

Now, while that 'thing' with 12 holes in it MAY function properly??? It leaves many ingress locations for dust ,dirt, mud to enter to action and foul it up. It is possible to weld/fill those holes and reblue/finish but with those issues to start with; what expectation does one have that those issues are the ONLY thing wrong.
    IMO Parts gun for sure.
For that money (> $1000) I want a functioning rifle at the least.

That's the shizzle! Lord knows what the magazine alone would bring ($1K?). You never see these hit the light of day. Definitely worth watching though I'm willing to bet it languishes at that start price. Ultra rare items like this can be hard to move, just not a lot of collectors out there for them.

The last POE Company magazine I saw come up went for around $1600.

Out of curiosity I am watching it, I'll post on here the final sales price (if it sells).

 Now that's what Photoshop is good for! Too funny and so topical. Though I think the classic phrase "Kid, you'll shoot your eye out!" doesn't apply here. ;)
