Indeed, a wonderful early production Colt rig with provenance. This is the stuff that gets me excited, a glimpse into the life of someone who made history.

Awesome bit of history, Did you do all that research and get the pictures
Yep, I have several pieces I've researched like this. Using ancestry websites, military records, and on this particular piece I was able to contact the historian at the Ohio national guard he was able to pull some information on the major for me, he made a reference to the book that he used. which he used I was able to actually find a copy that book in a used bookstore up in New York online and I acquired it for $60 printed back in 1920.

Gorgeous pistol and fantastic history! You just don’t see many WWI era pistols with that kind of provenance. I was fortunate enough to inherit my great grandfathers WWI Colt 1911 (1918 manufacture - he was 110th Inf., 28th PA National Guard), and like you I spent a lot of time tracking down a copy of every original book from the 1920’s mentioning his unit. The amount of photos and info that resulted was amazing. Congrats on such a priceless piece of American history!
