As most I plant my tomato’s deep. This year I planted them deep and sideways/angled so all the main roots were in center of bed. I not only had 8-10 of stem under ground, but it has been so much easier to water. Going to run self watering pipe or soaker hose down center next year.

Today's haul. Couple of those are sugar pumpkins destined for homemade pumpkin roll. Cherry tomatoes are finally turning green and the Roma's don't look to be far behind. Last weekend we started kale, radish, pumpkins, lettuce and watermelons in seed trays for a fall garden. May be a little late on some of it hopefully mother nature is kind with a late frost. It is going in raised beds covered in black plastic mulch so that should help buy us a few more weeks this fall.

Expectations where exceeded with my one '8x'4 bed. Neighbor behind my house dropped a large oak. Gonna add 2 more beds with a cattle panel trellis between them for next year. Just planted broccoli, bok choy, spinach, carrots, and radishes. Hope it is not too late. Gonna be harvesting maters till first frost

pulled mine this weekend. total bust. didn't have time in the spring to thin it down and it just became a jungle. Not enough sunlight getting to what needed it. Live and learn. Will do better next year.

That is why you practice before you have to do it in order to live. You now have knowledge that most of your neighbors don't and when TEOTWAWKI happens they will have to learn the hard hungry way.

Sadly I only have 4 half whiskey barrels to work with. Did OK with lots of early lettuce and radishes. Peppers came in strong. Tomatoes OK though the plants seemed to struggle in the hear (cherry and Roma) flavor diminished at hotter temps.

Cleared things out for fall lettuce and maybe one more round of bush beans.

Red onions didn't do so well this year. The ones that didn't get munched by deer, rabbits, and squirrels looked pretty anemic.

I had 5 tomato plants and only got a few tomatoes. The deer got the rest again this year. I think I'll plant a Creape Myrtle this fall and give up on the tomatoes. Going to sell my Troy Bilt roto tiller too. No need since l no longer have a big garden.

Corn was anemic. Squash, gourds, and pumpkins were champs. Tomatoes and peppers were average. Tomatillos are still chugging along and will hopefully beat the first frost. Deer wiped out the beans as usual but I expect that and only plant them to distract the deer from the other plants. Radishes grow like weeds in my garden but potatoes tend towards being small. A fairly mediocre growing season but that was partially due to my lack of attention to the garden.

I had early and late corn and all of it got trashed by storms. 2" of rain and wind and the corn was sideways and didn't pollinate well. Beans and kale was destroyed by bugs this year. I'll have to try and pesticide next year. I've never sprayed either before and never seen damage like this.

Tomatoes fair, pepper growing taller than ever and over 4' and production is just fair. Jalapeno pepper didn't even grow for me. Beets didn't produce of any good size. I had a fairly poor garden this year.

Nice haul, I'm jelly. I had 3 pumpkin plants this season and none produced. I tried a new spot in the garden and I think there was just too much shade and possibly some animal interference. Last season I only had one plant, thought I killed it mid-summer, and ended up with 7 pumpkins.

Got 10 to 12 maters left to ripen. Wind kinda f up the largest broccoli plant, gonna try to save it. Parsley still producing. Lettuce, bok choy, spinach, and radishes are doing good. I planted 2 bush bean plants late but still might get a harvest from them

Here's a picture of my corn and tomato ppatches.i also had some potatoes ans sweet potatoes. This past November I planted Garlic in one of my front beds.
The squirrels population exploded in my area this past summer and they ate 80% of my corn. I'm going to shoot and eat them over the winter to help save next year's crop.

Does anyone know a store around carroll county that sells 1 mil embossed plastic mulch in 3' or 4' rolls that would be used for row crop weed suppression. I need about 400' and dont really want to go all out on a full 4000' roll, but the markup and shipping on smaller rolls is crazy.
