1. Action Item: Turnout/emails for Tuesdays Herndon Town Council hearing and vote!
Turnout and speakers needed!
The Herndon Town Council is having what is probably their final hearing on local gun-control THIS TUESDAY NIGHT, September 28, 2021, at 7 pm. They will likely vote on the issue. However, an ordinance is by no means a done deal.
In a work session the Council held last week, they added an option B, which limits the restriction on guns to Town buildings only and has no exemption for CHP holders.
The original proposed ordinance, now called Option A, would ban guns in Town buildings, parks, recreation and community centers, and at “official town sponsored events.” The latter is not nearly as broad as some other NoVA localities, such as Fairfax County, which designates any event that is permitted or should have been permitted. CHP holders carrying concealed are exempted from Option A completely.
While Herndon’s proposed ordinance options are less egregious than other ordinances adopted in NoVA, it is still a solution in search of a problem.
Option A infringes on those peaceful citizens who do not want, or need, a CHP. Also, just because there is a CHP exemption in Option A doesn’t mean it would be in the final ordinance.
Option B infringes on the right of all citizens, including CHP holders, to protect themselves.
The cost to implement the proposed gun-control would be at least $6,000 for signage. Separately, Council is considering some options on security, which if fully implemented would cost almost $3 million initially and $750,000 each year to run! All for a town that hasn’t had any issues.

ACTION ITEMS
We need to contact Town Council in opposition to both Option A and Option B of the proposed ordinance. Comments can be submitted to: town.clerk@herndon-va.gov
Sample Subject: Oppose both Option A and Option B for proposed Ordinance 21-O-10
Sample Comment:
I urge Town Council to OPPOSE both Option A and Option B for proposed ordinance 21-O-10, which unnecessarily restricts the right of self-defense in certain public areas.
If you live in or near Herndon, attend and speak at tomorrow night’s hearing (Item #6 on the agenda). I cannot find anything on the Herndon website about having to register to speak.
The meeting, which starts at 7pm, is being held at:
Herndon Council Chambers
765 Lynn Street
Herndon, VA
Let’s roll, VCDL!
2. VCDL President speaking at 2A cookout in Norfolk on Friday
I will be one of several speakers at a 2A cookout in Norfolk titled “Classic Cars, Classic Guns” starting at 5:30 pm on Friday, October 1, at:
