Just finished up a western holster for a buds 45/70 BFR. I used my 50 cal. S&W BFR as a patter being the same size exterior and shape. Also making a 2 inch belt.

    No more hand stitching too.

    Nice.

With the BFR being as heavy as it is, have you tried the bandelaro holster?

I purchased the BFR nylon OWB holsters, when I purchased each pistol. I couldn't wear it without a pair of suspenders. The bandelaro holster corrects that issue.

I do not like bandelaros they tend to get in the way although they do lessen the load. I did make shoulder holster for a Desert Eagle. It hung down to the guys waste and has a loop which used his belt to keep it tight. All the weight was basically resting on his shoulder with a strap mid chest.

I am not a professional leather maker re started about 8 months ago. Back in the day in the early 70s I did a lot of leather work on our Coast Guard Cutter. Then started knife sheaths from the scraps. Now retired I started leather work to keep me busy.

I wear my BFR with a 2-1/2 inch belt the trick is not to wear it tight but to sling it at an angle from one hip to another. When worn that way it is comfy and does not feel heavy. Watch some of the old westerns and you will see what I mean.
