Tell me when was the last time you need to use your flashlight?

I can't remember how long ago I used it. One time due to loss of electricity for about 30 minutes in the house. Other time I was at an open house astronomy thing where I need to put on red filter flashlight or I trip over something. It was years ago.

I'm using a headlight right now. They're great when working on rack mount PCs

I use it to read bronze cemetery plaques that have not been cleaned in years

What are you doing in the cemetery at night? Not afraid of ghost? ;)

finding a small tool in my range bag

For God's sake, turn on the light! The switch is on your left!

looking down the bore to see if it is leaded

I can't believe an old timer like you don't have a bore scope. :sad20:

walking the dog in the dark.

OK. This is a good use. However, when I was walking the dog in the dark, I like to acclimate my eyes to the darkness so that the bad guys don't have an advantage of seeing me walking down the road. :D

Almost every day. I fondle my guns, my knives, and my flashlights and many other things that are private in nature. :innocent0

I do too, I love walking around about 3-4 am with the dogs in complete darkness, very peaceful. If there's anything out there I don't see and need to know about, they will tell me (Foxes, deer, rabbits, random dudes walking about). Human eyes are remarkably good at catching distant movement in the dark though, I often see deer before they do, silhouetted against a house, trees, or other background.

But eventually you come to one of the main purposes of the walk, then you have to pick it up. Headlamps are very good for that. Keeps hands free for waste bag and leashes.

Don't forget your green lights and red lights. For different purposes. This is the prepper forum, after all. I use them both while hunting. Green on the way in and red after about 10 minutes of dark if a light is still absolutely needed for some random purpose until about 30 min. before sunrise.

Last time I needed to use a flashlight? Several times a week. Looking at fine detail on something, or reading a serial number on a machine, or crawling on the basement floor looking for that spring that went flying... Also at dusk when walking the dog so that cars see us.

Hell, I have at least 6 just in the bedroom. The tiny AA 5T is an awesome EDC for the front pocket.
I always use the flashlight especially at night for where I parked. Nothing like doing a little cursory glance to the inside (and around) the chariot before I get in.

You can never have too many flashlights!

This. Then get twice as many.

Off the top of my head. An Ozark headlamp (has a really bright red LED light. That seems to be lacking on most, even hunting focused, head lamps. Most are 1-2lm. It is 10) and a generic hockey puck LED lamp from Amazon/China in my hunting pack. Both USB rechargeable. The hockey puck is for getting a deer and field dressing to hang it while I wear my head lamp.

I’ve got the same Ozark headlamp plus 4 cheap ones in my camping gear. Two Stream light 3xAA LED lanterns and their siege DD LED lantern in my camping gear. Oh, and in Olight lantern in there too.

A couple Black Diamond AAA camping lanterns in the emergency drawer in the kitchen with about a dozen chem sticks.

I’ve got three or four Olight USB recharge or keychain lights laying around and one on my keys. One of their AAA LED lights in my office desk drawer and one on my reloading bench. A 2xC battery LED Magkite by the garage side door and the basement exterior door mounted to the wall.

I’ve got LED 2xAA Maglite in the glove box of both cars. A CR123/AA stream light in my change tray where I keep my wallet and keys next to my bed.

I’ve got a couple Olight minis, one on my Glock 17 in my bedside drawer. One on my G21 in my safe. I’ve got a stream light CR123 mini light mounted as a weapon light on my AR-15 in my safe. A 3xDD LED Maglite around here somewhere.

Those are just what I can remember. A few crappy/cheap LED flashlights that the kids have.

*edit* forgot to mention I’ve got a generic single AA LED lantern/flash light combo in my bug out bag with some spare rechargeable AAs and a 5w folding solar panel and two battery charger plus a 2800ma lipstick lithium ion power pack and a couple USB cables (mini and lightning). I really should get a decent headlamp or AA flashlight to throw in there also.

There’s a mathematical function for how many you need.

    N+1 = Flashlights needed
Where N = number of flashlights you can find.

This is in contrast to the mathematical function for the number you can find.

    F - F = N
Where F = number of flashlights owned.

I've developed a real dislike for the flashlights with multiple programs; high, low, superhigh, strobe, extra buttons for specific features etc. Can't keep them all straight, accidental reprogramming of the sequence renders them useless when you need them quickly . . . just too many gimmicks and bells and whistles.

Same here. I want a light that has an on/button that’s it.

Everyday. I carry a light with me everywhere I go and use it numerous times a day, mostly at work.

Don’t leave home without one. Use at work mainly everyday.

I have a lot of flashlights but can’t ever find most of them, like everyone else. I also have a ton of head lamps, because I spend a bunch of my life overseas in places with poor to no power.

I have found the most important aspect to having a flashlight you can always find is to hide one up high and not tell your spouse or children that it exists. As soon as one of them finds that one, consider it lost. Then buy a new one and hide it in a new place.

Your wife might accuse you of having too many flashlights, but we all know the truth: the only flashlight you actually have is the one that no one else knows about.

This is true. The only reason I have a giant Maglite is it can never get lost. Just too big to put anywhere. It just sits in the corner.

You obviously aren’t trying hard enough. I lost my 3xD battery maglite in my attic insulation for 4 years. I found it 2 weeks before I moved.

    Now in Tennessee ,
Aren't flashlights a bit like pocket knives and potato chips?

You can never have just one!

So true , After this started I gathered some, Not all mind you so I didn't have to return them to were I have them but I'm at close to 70 all for different reasons and mutable ones so I don't have to worry about running out
