I am looking at getting one of these in an 18 inch barrel as a hunting, SHTF bolt action. Anyone have one? What do you think of it?

I liked my MVP in 5.56x45. The 7.62x51 version supposedly takes both SR-25 and M1A mags, which is pretty damn slick. I have intentions of buying one eventually. :)

Depending on your particular needs, you may also want to take a look at the Patrol model.

I held one at the HoCo gun show. Pretty sweet. I like that it shares my M1A mags. It was sold by the time I decided I wanted it.

The stock is really cheap feeling but otherwise it seemed nice.

I have the mags. That is why I am looking at this for my 308 bolt gun. The web reviews are good. Just looking for MDS feedback before I drop the money on it.

I wonder how these hold up compared to the Ruger Gunsite scout?

I don't have either yet. The mossberg uses m1a/m14 or sr-25 mags. The ruger uses proprietary mags. Also per the internet the mossberg has an adjustable trigger.

waiting for someone to buy my sig 938 to free up funds to buy this.

I knew about the mags, but not the trigger.

I've been thinking about a bolt gun, and looking at the Ruger. If those turn out to be the only differences between the two, and they're actually both a quality product like I suspect, then I'll likely go with the Mossberg. That way my 10 rd M1A mag would find a purpose.

From all of my google searches the Ruger and Mossberg are similar. The mossberg also comes in a patrol version which uses scout scopes and is closer to the Ruger. I think the Mossberg may also be priced a little lower too.

I finally picked one up. Tyler Firearms ordered it for me. Hopefully will make it to the AGC today to sight it in and will post pics later...

Finnally got it out to the range.

I got done early today at the hospital so with 70+ temps and virtually no wind I headed up to the AGC for some range time.

I got the 18inch predator version and I am very happy with it. It is a light handy rifle that for me feels like a true scout type rifle. I tried it with the factory Mossberg magazine, an M1A/M14 magazine and a PMAG SR-25 magazine. The M1A magazine fit the best. All of the magazines fed well. The bolt felt loose when no magazine was present. With a magazine in it felt tight. An empty M1A/M14 magazine would act as a bolt stop.

I tried it with a variety of ammo.
I could not get a decent group with Herter's 150 grain steel cased ammo.

Using Tule 150 grain steel cased I got a decent grouping (at 100 yards)

    There are 2 groups.

The three three shots on my right are the best group I got. I used a different aiming point from the other group.

Overall, the rifle shoots better than I can...:)

Thanks for the range report and photos. Quick follow up question. How/where does the balance. Is it muzzle heavy off hand?
I'm really on the fence with this rifle and the Ruger offering due to magazine compatibility and left hand offerings. The mossberg seems to win on price point also.

It balances around the mag well.
I am a lefty and have yet to find a benefit to a left handed rifle..
