Apoligies if this has been asked, I seen many posts about moving into Maryland, but none about moving out of Maryland.

I will be doing just that shortly, to a state which does not infringe on our 2A rights. That being said, is there a process that I reach out to the MSP and tell them I am will no longer be at my home address associated with my HQL?

It is enraging enough that the MSP has a controlled firearm (pistols etc) registration. I will obviously be taking my firearms, and would ideally like to be removed from the registration database.

Thank you in advance for your input!

Im less than a decade from retirement. Im heading out the door on retirment day. Current circumstances don't allow for a faster retreat.

I moved to Tennessee in 2019. There is good advice on this thread. When I got here, I asked a state cop about registering my firearms (not necessary) and concealed carry (easy to obtain permit for for both concealed and open carry) and he gave me good advice on local gun shops and ranges. I thanked him and he said, "You're a Tennessee resident now. We work for you." It made me miss Maryland not at all.

Guess I will put Tennessee on the list of retirement states to look at....

Was thinking Montana, but it might be a bit cold for my old bones.

Same. I'm looking at about 4-5 years before I can get serious about thinking toward doing a soft-retirement elsewhere. I don't quite know where were going to target for a place to retire to though. Northern NC is high on the list - a bit warmer but still have seasons, but I've also toyed with TN, and maybe even FL - the missus thinks FL will be too hot.

I moved to Florida in 2018, I did nothing. When I went to their MVA, I was asked if I wanted to apply for my carry permit. The whole visit lasted 17 minutes. I love this place!

It's great how this is turning into a "Destinations after we all escape from MD" thread.

its challenging. they got their eyes on GA, AZ, and NC now. Short of a show of not being welcome liberals will continue to not like liberal laws and policies and more ( CA to CO is a good example) and bring their voting with them. The other thing is demographics as blacks are 90% likely to vote dem and i think latinos are 70% likely. Both groups according to various stats are the poorest groups by race and ethnicity are having the most babies while asians and white people ( wealthiest) are having the least. I doubt a "Don't breed em if you cant feed them rule will be invoked.

I moved from that dump of a state years ago. Get your driver license and insurance in the new state within 30 days your good to go and tell Md nothing. I don’t even pay state income tax that’s how I could afford to move here back then. You can buy a gun here in under an hour if you know what you want and can afford it none of that waiting BS. Acadamy Sports the best place to buy reasonable prices and give vet descounts.

I have about 3 years to go before I head over to WV. I feel like it is the only close state that will not flip on their stance in terms of gun laws. There are no major cities in WV to F it up. That being said... The panhandle is driving distance from DC and the sh!t seems to be spreading outward.

I wish DC would instead condense and implode. Northram has screwed up Virginia. Northern VA messes up the whole state. Pittsburg and Philadelphia mess up PA. I don't even trust PA anymore after Wolfe throwing his weight around. My guns can stay in the MD database. Good luck to MD if they try to get WV police to confiscate one of my weapons that I legally own if I live in WV.

MD can keep their dumb gun laws and liberal policies. I will still fight for MD during the MGA sessions even after I move. I will be throwing rocks from the other side of the border.

    Don't move to Virginia

I moved to VA in 2016 and soon learned that VA has a dictator governor and soon acquired a DemoRat-run State Legislature. 'Hope that will change this November; however, the 'Rat-infested area of Northern VA is a powerful center of Socialists. Maybe TN? Best of luck!

I am moving to NC in August for grad school. I will be changing residence and not planning on returning to MD. I am pretty sure I am all good based on what I read online, but maybe a member who is more familiar with NC laws can educate me on if there are any firearms I can own in MD that I cannot own (or bring into) in NC? Anything I need to do once I get there?

Hey. I just moved to NC last yr for school from dc. You don't have to register anything. You can open carry with no license. To purchase handguns you have to get a pistol purchase permit in your county of residence. Any thing else you can just walk in and buy.

If it's legal federally, it's legal in NC. You don't have to do anything when you move unless it's NFA in which case you should comply with the feds.

    https://www.grnc.org/

"Grass Roots North Carolina (GRNC) is a non-profit, all volunteer organization devoted to educating the public about trends which abridge the freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, and engaging in grass roots activism to preserve those freedoms. Formed in 1994 to conduct a highly successful rally for the Second Amendment, GRNC has gone on to conduct projects like "Remember in November: A Gun Owner's Guide to Voting," bringing concealed carry to North Carolina."

Their alerts are timely and helpful to keep North Carolinians up to date with gun-related topics we should be aware of. The emails specifically make it easy to get involved with your legislatures and they give you talking points should you need them. I highly recommend subscribing to their alerts.

Ditto that! Moving to South Carolina via Georgia. Started in Feb 2020, just in the nick of time to avoid Maryland's mask insanity.
