I ran across these today while taking inventory. A neighbor of mine many years ago who served in WWII gave these to me. 45 ACP shot shells. He was in the Pacific and told me these were very effective against rats. Not sure I want to shoot these in my 1911A1 though.

Why not? I shot quite a few of those when I was a kid. That's how we kept the vermin in check. Dad brought a bunch of stuff back from the Pacific. :D

They won't hurt the gun but it may not cycle right if you have a heavier than 16 pound spring.

Rat Patrol - one of my favorite shows when I was a kid

*****That was a really cool show! My parents got me one of those cool hats with the one side folded up, from the Sunny Surplus Store in Langley Park for my birthday one year! It was WAAY to big for me but I still wore it while watching that show sometimes, and playing with my GI Joe's.

Even as a kid, I *knew* Barbie came with GI Joe, and not Ken. That's why I wanted to be GI Joe.

Those original shells are quite the collector's item. I have a set of RCBS dies to load them from .308 family brass. I think CCI currently makes a version. They won't hurt your 1911, but they probably won't cycle with a ball recoil spring.

Won't cycle a 1911, but work fine in a M1917 pistol. I'll buy a box if your selling. Heck, even just a few rounds for the collection.

If the actual question is about effective dispatching of Large Rats , the answer is CCI .45 Colt Shotshells . ( Yes , I've actually shot enough grain fed barn rats to have a first hand comparison opinion .)

But the range on the box is optimistic . For any non- NFA handgun , the maximum range for dense enough patterns to consistently put down a large rat is about 10 Feet .

Those are collectors items and will sell for a premium. Or start your own collection and use them for trading stock for things you don't have.
