Damn. Glad you missed it. Harness wouldn't have helped on that one.
Back then, the only safety devices were a piece of rope tied around your waist and the tree.
Damn. Glad you missed it. Harness wouldn't have helped on that one.
When you know the inside of your deer stand is, finally, “big enough!”
I always carry a single person Eno hammock in my pack. There is no sleep to be had at my camp. Buncha snoring SOBs! If I stay out the whole day its nice to take a midday nap in a sunny spot.
I once had a deer walk right up on me....like 5 feet away. It blew and I flipped out of the damn hammock and landed on my face. All I saw was the tail running over the ridge.
Glad it wasn't a black bear!
I fell 20' from a homemade treestand a couple miles off the road on a mountain top in western Md, as the top 'ladder' rung separated from the tree. I landed on my back, rung still clutched tightly in my hand. I came to rest in a pocket of leaves and snow, cushioning my landing. There was a 6'' stump just beside me, only inches from the small of my back.
Somebody was sure looking out for me that day...
Looks good!
It'll be a nice hide out when its raining+cold, for a new hunter and when you want to take a break and tag some ZZZ's !
We just built another out of some old barn tin and scrap lumber.
No windows at this time but it wouldn't be hard to rig up something makeshift from the inside.
Were going to pull it around on a trailer and leave it at a good spot.
Ill see if I can get the picture to load up it wouldn't for some reason earlier.
Anyway ,If you can ever get around someone cutting a school bus up for watermelon picking/transport. Those slider windows are good to grab for making box blind windows.
Probably not the best thing that's out there but they're usually free, airtight and easy to place-use.
School bus windows- that’s a good idea. I am making sliding windows out of 1/4” plexiglass. They will slide up to a magnet catch. I will post pictures when they are done.
What are you insulating with? 1/2" foamboard? Will be building one next summer and thinking ahead.
2” foam board. I’ve had some laying around, so I used it. It’s R-10, so it should help.
