    The Beretta A400 series is really low recoil. I had a A400 Xcel and it was a ***** cat to shoot.

    Kind of late to the party, but you ought to give consideration to the Remington V3 semi-auto in 20 gauge. With either slugs or #1 buckshot it is very effective at 10-15 yards and the recoil is surprisingly light - partially attributable to the Remington gas management system in the V3. FWIW, I often recommend 20 gauge shotguns for home defense, as at reasonable SD ranges they are quite effective and easier for most people to shoot. YMMV
