I don’t remember using hearing protection training in the marines in our combat cities but then again, they we used blanks and they had open windows. I do have hearing loss though so there’s that.
This is a great point, even with hearing protection, a 16" barrel AR (esp. with a muzzle brake) is LOUD. If you are using an AR braced pistol or SBR, then it's even LOUDER. The can really takes the edge off and it's a much more pleasant experience.
I have tinnitus, and it's because I neglected over the years to wear hearing protection when operating yard equipment, loud music, etc. Over time all of this takes it's toll. We are one of the few countries that forces our hunters to risk hearing loss. Even the socialist countries allow their hunters to obtain a sound suppressor. It just makes sense.
