Yes, I was talking about chirp having access to open the files. Now I see your problem.

Since it's not "signed" (a cert is added by a developer who paid Apple for the the certificate), the first time you open it, you have to right-click (or control-click) and select open. You'll get a warning it wasn't signed and click "open" on the warning. After that first time, you can just double-click like normal.

I wouldn't put my call in my sig unless I wanted everyone to know exactly who I was and my exact street address.

Would you like me to pm it to you for proof?

What call? ;) Yeah, I can be a dumb ass and I know what you mean. Public info, easy look-up.

I might invest in a PO box.

EDIT: And I did, but need to finalize it in person. Luckily I have 2 post offices near by and that matters. One is $8/month cheaper than the other for the same size.

If you change to a PO box, make sure you keep up with that PO box. If the FCC makes any licensing change and when its time to renew, you will loose out if they can't contact you. That's the only drawback of using a PO box.

    For anyone using the BF-R3.

I found a work around in Chirp, select "Radioddity UV-5RX" and everything seems to work.

I have 2 of them and neither will connect. My UV82HP connects just fine. I can't push the damn cable in any farther. I did use the 5rx profile. I am also using the Btech FTDI suggested cable....

    Help, please.

I'll continue to look, but so far this is the most recent (23 Jan 2020) "bug report/request" on the BF-R3. It is an "open issue" about the model not being found.

Chirp is a volunteer effort, and it cannot be expected that a model will be added immediately once it has been requested. There are two requirements to get a new model supported by chirp: 1) there must be a volunteer who does the coding, 2) there must be a sample radio. If these two requirements are not fulfilled, then the only option is to wait.

    https://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/7593

However, the supported models page states to use that radioddity model:

    BF-R3 (use Radioddity UV-5RX3)

But, being that they say to use a different brand, the firmware might have changed enough that the radioddity firmware is no longer compatible.

Which antenna(s) were you using previous to this one and which HT? I have a UV82 (non HP) with an NA771 antenna. Better reception would be better.

Depends on where you are and what you are trying to receive. The NA771 is a pretty good antenna already.

Damn. I can’t believe I missed this thread. I purchased one a while back and haven’t had the chance to learn to use it.

Sundazes, does your cable have lights like the one in the picture below?

If it does and the lights aren't blinking on and off when you try to pull data from the phone, then the USB driver isn't seeing the cable. (I have previously installed the Prolific Driver)

Of course make sure that you've selected the proper port like in the picture below. Chirp otherwise defaults to Bluetooth (at least on my Mac) whenever I restart.

I purchased my BF-R3 from Amazon in August of 2019, and used the radio selection of Radioddity UV-5RX3 successfully. Volume turned all the way up of course.

Here's the link for the BF-R3 radios that I had ordered ...

    Same radios, same time frame.
Cable is the BTECH PC03 FTDI.
The cable and Chirp software work with a UV-83HP.
I have 2 of the r3's. The software can't find the radios. It will find and program the UV-82HP.
    No idea....

As I like to say, a $40 radio isn't going to come with a $20 antenna. The Nagoyas are a pretty good upgrade.

Noted and understood Mark75H. Thank you. Research led me to the NA771. Appreciate your validation of my choice. Got an adapter and hooked up to my TV UHF/VHF antenna thinking I'd be chatting with ET. I feel like a complete stooge with this stuff. Lots to learn. Cheers
